whenever you put it into drive it shows all the gears as if your in tiptronic mode, but it will not shift up when it is supposed to. put it in tiptronic mode and the screen stays the same but moving the shifter up and down has no effect. any idea?

    Re: A4 Tiptronic Wont Shift

There are little magnets under the shifter, and in the tiptronic part there are two little ones that send a signal when you shift up or down. My money is on the magnets being loose or out of place

Yep, the circuit board under the shifter needs to be replaced. Can't adjust or manipulate the magnets. I couldn't find any source for the board when mine did that other than dealer. If you purchase from indy shop they may charge you more than going straight to the dealer. I found this out the hard way and should have gone to the dealer on this one.

    Re: A4 Tiptronic Wont Shift

Oh, I had this problem too - mine wouldn't even shift into tip mode. It's a pretty cheap fix - I ordered the part from genuineaudiparts.com. This is not the circuit board, but is the shifter assembly that covers the cirucuit board, and goes around the shifter itself. I think there is a diagram if you take a look on the site.

Is there any way for you to open up the shift console and get a visual?

Here's more detail on the part I ordered:

Hate to bring back a dead thread but did you ever figure out the problem? I'm having an issue with my tip as well, I can shift from 1st-3rd but can't get it to shift into 4th-5th. When it's in regular auto mode everything works and shifts just fine. I replaced my shift knob and kinda jacked up my shifter cover and popped the circuit board out of place, so I'm thinking/hoping that it's an easy fix and I don't need to replace my transmission

If you have access to VCDS, you can view all the shifter positions when you move the shifter lever around, in the measuring blocks. There will be fault codes stored also. You need to fix the problems causing the fault codes, then clear them.
