Recommendations for Jack and Jack Stands...

Obviously, I have a B7, which is why it is starting here =P

The widowmaker is not to be trusted anymore, so I am looking for a fairly inexpensive jack that I can keep in the car (so not too heavy, preferably with a cover) and that can raise it enough to get it ONTO JACK STANDS without too much difficulty. I borrowed my friend's that he got from AutoZone... Barely made it onto the stands at their lowest setting. That, or my jack stands are too high... So I'm gonna go ALL OUT HERE New Jack and Stands... Ideas? What do you guys use?

Sears has a sale for 40 bucks on a set, but I don't know if I trust it after reading some of the reviews saying that the jack doesn't work after a few uses. Seems like a waste of 40 bucks to me...

i went to autozone of one of your local automotive parts stores and picked up a $100 jack and 2 stands. I think the jacks are good for up to 2500lbs each and the stand for like 3500 or maybe even more...

i have used it numerous times over the past 6-8 months with no troubles at all so far. only downside is the jack itself is kinda heavy. but if you plan on doing a lot of modding to your car in the future, definitely worth the investment.

Up on Toronto I picked up a mastercrafts set for 69.99 (on sale) with 2 floor jacks i think (the triangle things). Works well on my lowered A4 and so far so good.

The problem is, after my roadside excursion, I don't want to use the factory jack again because the car kept falling off. Thankfully, a passing motorist had some wood blocks to chock the wheels or I would have been screwed. The design is terrible and I want to replace it with something more stable...

Just noticed another one on the sears website that is just the jack, without the stands, and it comes with its own case, and that's 40 bucks as well... seems more well constructed... Might give that a shot... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...criptionAnchor

honestly, I have not had problems with the widow maker... I am 2 for 2 with them... I just used a flat area like a parking lot, always put the car in brake and put the emergency brake on... push the car a little from the back to make sure the car is stable, used the manual to figure EXACTLY where to put the stand and make sure it was sitting properly and make sure the widowmaker was perpendicular to the frame.

Cheap... can support 4500lbs I think our cars are around 3700lbs? Should suffice.

Just find you an aluminum jack (seriously). They're fairly lightweight especially compared to regular jacks. If you can find a you an aluminum racing jack then that's even better because its made for low profile cars and will get your car raised up pretty good in about 5 pumps. You can find jack stands separately for fairly cheap also.

go to a junkyard and get yourself a scissor jack from any car like a honda, toyota, nissan with the tools to spin it. never go wrong with a scissor jack for those emergencies. and for home get yourself an aluminum racing jack, 6 pumps and the wheel is far off the floor plus they weigh less than 30 lbs.
