AC smells like piss

Why's it smell like piss when i turn on the AC of my '08? To my knowledge no one has pissed anywhere in or around my car.

What could be causing this?

mold building up in your ac system tell ur dealer there should be a tsb out on it.... if not they offer ac deod services for cheap

Replace your cabin filter, and you should be fine

we do these all the time here in az. just get a a/c bomb and follow directions. remove pollen filter and a/c setting low fan speed low with recirc on. put the bomb in passenger foot area. open the bomb and shut doors let a/c run for 30 min. open and air out car.replace pollen filter

I bought my '07 A3 used and the AC had that piss smell - I took it to the dealer and told them about the AC stank and they took care of it.

BTW, for those of you thinking you may have the same problem. I've noticed it only smells when using the AC and its worse on humid/hot days.

the dealer will perform an "airsept" treatment. if you want you can run your heater on full blast for about 1/2 hr and spray lysol in the fresh air vents let it circulate through the sysyem and you'll be good.

I have found that this problem occurs more often if you constantly use your recirc button.

i have an 04 S4 and my AC smells awful, i just changed the cabin filter and it didnt make any difference, you should definetly go to the dealer and get them to clean out the AC system

If you have a lot of mariachis in your car and thai hookers yes

I can explain exactly what's goin on and what causes this.

Basically, you are using your A/C on hot and humid days and then abruptly turning it off when you shut your car off. The inside of your air ventilation system builds up condensation really bad and that liquid gathers up and goes stagnant. Mold forms and that is what you are smelling, built up moldy condensation.

To solve this, the best way is to do this: A few minutes before you reach your destination, switch to econ and let the ambient outside air dry your system out and normalize the temp of the ventilation system interior so that it does not condensate when you shut your car off. If it already smells, open all your windows and run the heat on high for 10 minutes to dry the system out really good to start with, that should give you a clean start for the most part.

A lot of cars do this these days, especially expensive cars with advanced climate control systems (go figure).

That sounds pretty damn logic to me , good suggestion !!!

BTW: For some odd reason every time i switch on the econ mode my windows start to get hazy why the hell could this be, is it because of the mold???

No thats because econ mode shuts off the AC compressor and the air coming out in the car goes from being ice cold to warm and maybe even a little humid if there is condensation in the AC evaporator

its like breathing onto your windows :)
