    Features of the RNS-D?

What features does this unit have? Does it have nav with full screen? Is it a pain in the ass to enter the info? It is not a touch screen, right? Can you view and control an ipod with the right adapter? Is it possible to hook up a phatnoise system? Any other stuff it does? Wanna know if it is worth it to buy one. Thanks.

RNS-D is the old nav unit with the small screen, if you're gonna do it go for the RNS-E thats what I have and I love it.

At $450 I would go for a smaller screen. I just am not sure of the features.

    Re: Features of the RNS-D?

RNS D is Cd based, and slower, and a smaller screen. I don't think they have updated the Nav disc since 04 at the latest. I have heard of people using the MB Nav Disc from later years, since they kept with the old tech. I was going to get the RNS-D for the TV tuner. I spend a lot of time just chilling in the car, and I thought it would be nice to have.

All that said, the RNS-E really is light years better. I remember a thread in one of the other AZ sections where this dude got one brand new and everything from Poland for $750 I believe shipped. Worked great. He had a link to the Ebay listing where he got it from. I almost bought one.

All Audi NAVs are a pain in the ass to enter info. Like scrolling through blocks of addresses instead of indiv. ones.

It has a 5" screen, and requires 10+ map CDs. Not good for cross country trip planning. I think TV tuner is avail for it like most euro units come wired for. There is a website for this unit or was, that had TONS of pics/install info like navplus, and where I got the info of people swapping gauge clusters to get the color DIS. might have gone the way of dodo

I think there is still that guy from PL selling them on ebay. But you're better going with that or a new portable gps for that kind of money. I have the last newer map CD for my OEM nav, and coverage is the suck in small towns.

    Re: Features of the RNS-D?

I always Download the latest Nav DVD from Pirate Bay for my lexus. No matter what Nav you use, the maps/coverage/accuracy is what it is. The portable ones and the touch screen OEM ones do make thing A LOT easier. I just got back from testing my new TOMTOM. Sure as shit, it still has the TacoBell off by a block. I feel sorry for out of towners that miss the Soft shell taco goodness because of that. I will be correcting it on the Tomtom site now...

    RNS-E:

    RNS-D:

For me it was an easy decision, I also have the TV feature unlocked and I hooked up a slim DVD player under my glove compartment, I love it.

    Re: Features of the RNS-D?

I think I paid like $300 for my RNS-D, so I couldn't pass up the deal. RNS-D supports a TV tuner, DIS navigation info (aka showing where to go on your cluster), oem cd changer /iphone stuff etc.
