    Owner's Manual Slot

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey - I have my manual in the slot right below the steering wheel and if I take off WOT, it slips out very easily and smacks me in the legs. Am I missing a clamp or something that should be holding it in? Also, does anyone hold a gun in there? I am looking for a safe place to have my gun where it's easily accessible and I'm thinking that might be a good spot since it fits VERY well in there. But then I'll have the same issue, I don't mind a book hitting me in the legs, but a gun is something a little different. I'd rather it stayed where I put it. Any ideas? And good ideas, for all of you haters, do not include "Don't carry a gun" or "Guns don't kill people, apes with guns kill people"

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

hmmmmmmmm...no clamps missing..however i put my book in with the spine of the manual facing me...and it never pops out...and what kind of WOT are you doing? lol

anyways....guns? its highly illegal here in nj lol, but what about the little drawer under the seats? or i guess you could put it where the manual is and shimmy a velcro strap around something so you can just pull it out if needed (hopefully never i would assume lol) and throw the manual in the glovebox...j

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

I have tried the manual in there both ways and both ways fall out if I floor it from a dead stop. I am going to attempt to pull the tension clamps down a bit more and see if that does it.

As for the guns, if you have a carry license, you are allowed to conceal it in your car (in the states that I reside / work). You're not allowed to flash it, for obvious reasons. I don't ever plan on having to use it, but, that's why I have it, just in case. Also, that little drawer, maybe I have something different than the rest of you. I don't have a drawer, I have a little cubby hole. The door opens and the only storage I have is what's on the door. It is only 3-4 inches deep. Do you guys have a full drawer?

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

There should be a leather or vinyl manual cover/holder that creates enough friction from the holding slot.

Yes, I have it in there along with my RNS-E manual, registration and a bunch of other documents / books. It's full. But it still slides right out.

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

Are you sure you're not missig one of the books inside? (there should be 3 i think) Usually it's thick / fat enough to stay in. If not... Dunno what to tell you.

I thought any gun in the car was concealed weapon, but if you have a carry license, more power to you! hahah

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

I went down to the car and checked. I do have three books. I did notice the tension clamp in the back actually stays behind the books rather than going on top of them. I put my hand in there and pushed it up and pushed the books under it. I'll see if that fixes the issue. And yes, it is concealed and yes, I do have a license.

    more power to you!

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

I have the same problem. When the spine is facing me it comes out less, but it still comes out. I don't use the manual much so I was thinking of doing something like that sticky putty or w/e. This way if I really need I can get. Not like I am pulling it out every day. As long as it's there in case I need it!

Maybe I'm an idiot, but i've always kept my owners manual in the glove box...you're telling me there is a specific slot for the leather manual under the wheel?? Anyone have a pic?

In addition, what kind of gun are you rocking? I hope a .45?

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

If you look directly under your steering wheel, you'll see it, believe me. I will either be carrying my Springfield XD-M 40 or my Beretta PX4 40 with me. My .45 is excessive for my purpose. It doesn't matter what size the slug is, it's going to leave a mark.

on my A4 Avant (b6) if I put just the manual in there it would fly out instantly. WAY too slippery and thin enough that there is no tension.

You should have your manual, and other books (maintenance, NAV instruction if you have it, ownership and insurance) all in the leather man-purse that came with the car. If they're all in that, and you slide that in the slot, they're in there solid and won't come out at all. The books themselves are super slippery though and will never stay in on their own.

p.s. anyone ever hear a click in your left ear when you reach down there for your insurance/license during a traffic stop?!

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

I started a thread once in GCC. Quite simple... DO YOU OWN A GUN?

it was incredible how many people had guns. America is definitely different.

I'd like to start another poll...HAVE YOU EVER PULLED YOUR GUN ON SOMEONE/SHOT THEM?

Why don't you just throw it in the glove box? I leave mine at home in my desk. Weight savings.

Canada sucks. No handguns. Super strict owner rules for handguns :-(. Just throw some service papers in the manul book to make it a little thicker. No slipping and shooting.

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

Under the seat is the best place for a gun, its quick to get to and concealed. As for the other stuff, your missing something from your owners manual, mine in both the wagon and s4 sit perfect underneath in that bin. Stuff that nylon holder with some additional paperwork and itll sit nicely in there.

Guns are great as long as they are in the right hands, they have been used by our forefathers to protect this country.

If you get postive responses from a poll like that they are lying...people who have done that legally and illegally wont talk about it(or shouldnt).

    Re: Owner's Manual Slot

I may have a different setup than you guys do but I can't put anything under my seats. There is a small compartment there that could maybe fit a radar detector in it, and that's all. No chance whatsoever that I would be able to fit a handgun under the seat.

NJ is like Canada as far as owning guns, so yes, it sucks BIG TIME to be a state citizen of NJ. But back on topic, what's WOT stand for?

if the book keeps sliding out, you might try putting one or two rubberbands around one of the covers, or if it's real slippery, both.
