B5 vs. B6 any big advantage to the B6?

I'm considering moving to a B6 Avant, besides the nicer looking interior is there any big advantage or disadvantage to the B6 besides the 6-speed in '04?

Is the curb weight the same?

advantage of b6, that is it relatively newer, most likely to have less problems

B5 kind of hard to find especially if you are looking manual, and of course price

Odd thing is that the interior of the B6 seems to fall apart quicker then the B5. The B6 is slightly heavier and is slightly wider on the outside.

B6 fits wider tires (245 or 255), has aluminum spindles for less unsprung weight, 6 speed...

I'd take a B6 but I'd rather have an allroad with RS6 front end and mtm flares.

My friend has a B6 1.8T TIP that I drive frequently and I have to say that the interior isn't as spacious as the B5 (I'm 6'4" so I would know). Other than that they're pretty nice even though I think they look like space ships for some reason haha.

i like the b5 better. even though the b6 is still pretty nice. and you can get a pretty good condition one for cheap around here

B6 is easier to tune unless you have an 01 b5. I thought I heard someone say that B6s dont have control arm issues that b5s have. Not 100 percent positive on that though.

The B6 and B7 control arms look almost identical to the B5 so idk if they would really have less problems. I mean they could be a little tougher but I bet they still go out once they start getting as old as B5's.

The 01+ has a wide band 02 sensor and the tune works off of a target AFR. The pre 01's use a narrow band 02 that the ECU doesnt even look at during WOT.

You can have a double din head unit in a b6 Only the newer b5's allowed you to use a double din head unit but not the earlier ones

I gotta agree with that. The B6 looks like an awkward model between the B5 and B7, which are great designs. The lines of it are very round throughout, not sharp like the B5 or aerodynamic like the B7/B8.

ever since I started looking to buy my first audi in spring of 08, I had always thought, buy either a b5 or wait for a b7, because I hated the b6 look.

In my eyes, the b6 was a somewhat attempt to make the a4 look like an a6. Also, they tried to make it bigger and luxurious, again, like the a6, but it didnt work out that well.

However, ever since I have been a part of the audi forums online, I have found myself growing more and more attracted to the b6 body. and the USP kit puts the cherry on top too!!

i've owned a b5, and i loved it so much. the body was beautiful, the interior was nice. now i own a b6 avant and i love the hell out of it. it comes down to personal preference really. find both, test drive and see which one you like yourself in more.

i loved my B5. it has the sexiest profile and rear end of all the gens imo.. but i like my B6 a little more to be honest. my interior isn't falling apart as mike put it. and yes, tuning is easy as pie if you are looking for 250-300Awhp. just an elim and revo flash will get you there all day. but if you want to go beyond that, good luck. our lack of FPR at the fuel rail hinders big power from the B6's(although it can be done with enough money). so be weary if you're looking to go BAT in the future..

as far as exterior, yeah, USP owns it in the looks department. wider tires are NICE! love the compass in my rearview mirror and probably my favorite thing about it over my B5 is the "tap for 3 blinks" turn signals. shit you not. LOVE that feature..

oh, and get an avant if you make the switch. the sedan's rearend looks a bit funky imo

I had a B5 and I loved it and would still have it now if it was not trashed.

The B6 interior looks nicer than the B5 but lacks Oil temp & Battery Gauge which is a bummer.

The B6 boot is larger with a 6" sub mounted on the rear shelf so you get a better sound system.

Body wise both can look good with the right mods but I would say if you just did rims and suspension the B5 looks way better but with some body upgrades on the B6 they can also look very good.

Mapping on the B6 is easier as stated but also you can get more power out of the B6 with a stock turbo and just adding injector’s approx 235bhp where as the B5 face lift will only see around 220bhp on stock turbo (no injector file for the B5 stock turbo).

B6 can be upgraded to look like a B7 A4 to RS4 and the B5 to look like a B5 RS4 (best to buy a pranged on with going this route).

Cant say which one I liked more stock as I like both and to be honest you cant really go wrong with either but what ever you go for get Quattro you will not regret it.

wow that is pimp! Yeah right now I'm between an 01 1.8tqm Avant and a 02 1.8tqm. Of course this is all based on if I sell my current Avant.

I do like that they have some wicked K04 tunes for the B6

im surprised no one is mentioning the (imho) most glaring difference between b6 and b5. the b6 and b7 are both offered with the moneypit/boat anchor CVT transmission. if you do get a b6/7 please get either quattro, manual, or both just to avoid the migraine that is multitronic.

Yeah when I noticed this in a friend's B6 I was surprised but I could care less about heated seats. They make it feel like you've pissed yourself, and people are rarely in my back seat to begin with.

b6 has fenders, can fit wider tires, has better software options for going BT and is definitely a classier car, at least from the >'99 models.

A white b6 ultrasport with a 3071 would be mint.

Am i the only who think B5 has better looking and nicer material for the interior? The B6 has way more plastic in the inside, the exterior look fine but once i get into the driver seat, the feel of the material surrounding you make i feel like i was in a Japanese car(no offence). IMO the interior of the B5 feel way better.

yeah, it's all due to solidity and simplicity

b6 has much more overlapping interior pieces and panels than b5, so if you plan to retrofit a lot of electronics, you will have a lesser chance of getting annoying rattles from all over the place.

I have driven with my friend Adil (BEESIX) with the exhaust resonance and subs, i felt like his car was gonna fall apart (no offence Adil). However when he drove with me i bet he was thinking that my car is unreliable cause its old

if we're talking wagons - go with a allroad... those things are awesome... but the best part try finding it in stiick!! i know a guy with a v70 R wagon (300hp) who tried to race a twin turbo'd 6 speed - and got bakedddd!!!

The only advantage to the B6 is failing. And last time I checked, that wasn't an advantage.

All kidding aside, I prefer the B5 to the B6 due in large part to exterior styling, and interior quality. The 200+ pounds of weight saved by going with the B5 is also niiice.

The B6 is just too heavy for the already over-burdened 1.8T in the B5. Not to mention, things inside my B7 are already rattling...
