    Do B5 RS4 Brakes fit?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I saw the RS4 picture thread and saw the RS4 brake calipers.
Do they fit the US spec S4 without modification?

I have not seen anybody with these.

Pretty sure what you saw was B7 RS4 brakes and yes they bolt right up. Very popular upgrade for B5's across the pond.

i really don't think it's worth it go upgrade to larger OEM brakes. if you really need larger brakes get a BBK, if not, sports pads will do the trick for you, they make a HUGE difference

or B6 S4 conversion, which is what I'm doing, our rotors are big enough, they just have a poor design, and the Hp2 caliper isn't so great at highway speeds.

Our rotors are a good size? LOL, ya right. 12.1 inch rotors on a 3600lb car? Ya right. And than 10.1 in the rear!

You are out of your mind if you think those are big enough

out of my mind? If you're comparing them to $4000 alcons I guess they're not, for DD and ocassional track events they're just fine. I didn't have any brake fade problems in the TN mountians and through the tail of the dragon, and that's on stock rotors, SS lines, Dot4 fluid and mintex red-box pads

I am not running $4000 alcons, nor would i pay $4k for them. I AM upgrading to B6 S4 rotors and Stoptech Pads and Performance Friction pads. My stock S4 setup sucks, but than again, maybe i drive more aggressively than most do.

This picture here inspired me to look into this more. So you are telling me that these are not B5 RS4 Brakes then?

What is needed to get this setup to work? Do they bolt on?

that's my point I guess, for 80% of people on these forums, they're fine, most people upgrade for cosmetic purposes rather than acutal performance differences.

a lot of people run rs6 setups...at that point you might as well go BBK though b/c of the cost. Even my stoptech 332s with shit pads work better than stock brakes at all speeds.

Re: Do B5 RS4 Brakes fit?

I have the RS4 Front brakes and RS6 rear Brakes on my car (B5 S4)!!! They are way better than any kit out there for the money..you'll spend 3,500 for Brembo 4 piston calp. or 3,500 for a factory 8 Piston calp. hmmm that's a tough one....beside if you need replacement parts you can get them from local Audi dealer...if you have Alcon's you have to send the your rotors to Stasis so that they can swap the HATS so your down a car unless you have a beater car!!! If you need replacement rotors for a Brembo kit you have call Race Tech. and they'll end up costing you way more than the stock 15" RS4 rotor....so that being said i believe that everyone here is not rich and they can afford Brembo's or Alcon's!!! Me personally Stock OEM parts that work better and are cheaper. RS4 Brakes are the way to go..oh yeah the RS4 Calp. are Brembo's

To the original poster, yes those are either B7 RS4 brakes or RS6. The calipers are the same but the rotors are a little different..I think the RS6 hats or the rotor width is different. And yes, the RS4 front bolts right on. If you go with RS6 calipers you will need RS4 rotors to be bolt on.

Champion2901- what did you have to do to bolt up the rear RS6 brakes?

And you can get B7 RS4 front calipers, rotors, pads, and lines for around under 2g's shipped new. I picked up a used set for much cheaper. I'm planning to do B7 S4 rear rotors next.

for the RS6 rears to work you have take about 4mm off the overall dia. of the rotor in a lathe...then we machined about 3-4 mm of the calp. Bracket...i'll have to remeasure to be exact...but i only did it cause they where left over RS6 stuff we had when raced them in 2003 before Alcon and Champion developed a kit for racing in SWCGT...

oh yeah to use the RS6 front rotors you have to change the Hub to 4.2 V8 hub and get a wheel bearing...its about 5mm bigger(outboard) than a standard Hub (A4,S4,A6) if you do go with the RS6 rotors your front wheels will probably stick out more than your rears depending on what off set wheels you have =)

Repeated rolling racing to 150 MPH and then jamming the brakes is probably not what the OEM brakes were designed for

Actually, they were tested up to 155 mph...and the S4 was the smallest car ever to get the HP2 brakes. They were also fitted to A6/Allroad/A8 platforms.

As long as your braking system is in good condition, stock sized brakes are fine unless you're talking about speeds over 150 mph or track use.

Sure they were tested to 155 mph, but not over and over and over and over again. The way Adam (EvilEvo) uses them on a near daily basis *lol*.

Additionally, they may have tested them, but what were the test results?

Sure they were tested with multiple Autobahn stops in mind.

They passed Audi's criteria for braking performance. I'm pretty sure I've used the stock brakes harder than Adam did/does.

There's room for improvement, but the stock braking performance is quite good and certainly safe.

i have the "RS" brake set-up on my b5 s4. I did it back in 2003 when the rs6 came out. I have recieved many emails over this subject over the years. The B7 RS4 brakes bolt on. If you are driving on the street they are great...track use is not recommended. I have done quite a few cars with that setup since I did mine. I found it to be a cheaper alternative to other aftermarket set-ups.

at what particular track can u get your car to 155 over and over again?
i almost maxed out stock HP2's with HP+ (700 degrees) pads on Watkins Glen on Stage 1. The fastest i could get was 125-130 on back straight. now at Stage 2+ i will most likely get to 135 range, so i am going with HP Blue (extra 300 degrees). given good stage 3, i would imagine 145 tops there. and that is one of the fastest tracks i know in North East. most places do not have long enough straights to reach 155. S4 is not exactly known for fast turn-ins, so u have to approach corners slower than BMW or Porsches, so early braking is more likely.

thank you. i end up spending all my money on other upgrades, so B6 brakes will go next year. i did try the fitment though, even stock Avus wheels look nice over the 345mm rotors. completely filled... barely 1/2 inch left, just enough for wheel weights. r u painting the calipers?

think outside the box....he's probly talking about the highway...plenty of straights to hit 155. I personally think stock hp2s suck for anything over 120, even compared to stoptechs. but what do I know?

no one is arguing that stoptechs 332's are better, but r they $1700-2000 better? are they $600 per set of rotors better? are they cracked calipers/rebuild every 2 years better?

Also, who on Autobahn does 155-0 repeat braking?

Why do think they are not a good track setup? Were you running the front only? I'm sure the f/r bias will be off but if you put larger rear rotors +better pads, fluid, and SS lines for the front?

That is why i went with B6 S4 front calipers and stoptech B6 Rotors.

Trust me, there will most def be a 150+ stop. You remember i am doing a GT build and seeing as my buddy has a GT700 PCar, there will prolly be a 200mph attempt during a race. My stock brakes, Stock everything, was fine for around town, but anything over 120ish and they would fade before i was even stopped.

This is turning into a bunch of other stuff..Back to the OT..How do I get B5 RS4 rear brakes to fit on my B5 S4? and where to get them. All the other OEM options for rear are only around 300mm from what I remember and the RS4 gives you 312mm + 2-piece rotors. Seem like a perfect match for a good 355-370mm BBK up front.
