Gas Door release

all the doors have to be unlocked to open the gas tank. If the drives door the only door unlocked the gas door won't open.

LOL* This reminds me when I first got my A4. I looked up and down high and low on how to open the damn thing. After about ten min I got out of the car and just pushed in on the right side of the gas door and it opened .

Like the above post says make sure your doors are unlocked....

Right, with the drivers door unlocked it releases the lock on the gas door. You can then push the right side it letting it swing out.

Is this just for B5's? I got my B6 and was like what no gas lock???

Really? ..didn't know that.

Lock the doors and try to open the gas door. I'd be surprised if they took that away, unless they added a switch on the inside to release it.

What year do you have? When you lock the door does a metal pin come out into the gas cap area?

Man, at least I don't feel left out. I was on my way home from Atlanta (where I bought my Avant) and stopped for gas. I felt pretty dumb calling the guy back to ask where the gas flap release was! Granted, I traded in my '00 GTI 1.8T that had a release button. I knew for sure I just couldn't find it...

He's got an 01.
Same as in my case, it has the pin but it only needs to have the drivers door unlocked in order to get the gas cap open.

My car is not setup to unlock/lock all doors with one press of the button....much nicer this way.

I have a 97 and when my doors are locked the gas door is locked but as soon as I unlock my drivers door the gas door unlocks too, you can hear it, push the button again and you can hear the trunk unlocking

Bringing this back to life. I can't get my gas door to unlock for the life of me lol. My ccm got water damage, I thought that was the problem. I replaced it with a used one, reprogrammed it. Still no open gas door. I tore into it to check it out. It looks fine, no water or even dust has appeared to get back there. The siren and door actuator both look new still. Where do you even go about replacing these gas door lock actuator things? I couldn't find one on ecs or here used. I have an B6 A4. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

You're in the wrong section unfortunately with this question. I'd check out the B6 section.

For a B5, if you can't unlock the gas door for some reason, you can go in the trunk on the right side. Remove the carpeting on the side behind the tail light. You should see some vacuum lines leading down to the Central Lock Pump. I believe it's a red hard vacuum line that goes to the gas door release. Use your mouth and the vacuum line like a straw to create a vacuum and it should release the lock.

your central locking pump must be broken, your guna need to wedge out the locking pin with a flatghead screwdriver
