    Optima Battery, Autolight, or Duralast?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my battery died this week. I tried charging it, and got nothing. So im in the market for a battery. I called up Audi, they want $192.64, Kragen wants $155.99 for an Autolight Premium, and AutoZone has the Duralast Gold for $139. I really like Optima batteries though. They seem to last centuries in my other cars. But on their website they dont have one listed to fit my car.

Has someone ever gotten one in by modding it? Or is it a waste of time. What should I do?

I run a Yellow top in my audi, didn't have to mod anything. Just have to get the right size. When I pick the car up tonight I will post up the optima size unless someone gets it up before then.

Optima's are awsome batteries and will be the only battery I use from here out.

Red Top. Its so nice and lite compared to stock battery. It is about $150 I think but well worth it. They might tell you it isnt on their list of recommended batteries but it is better thats why.

Optima Red Top 35 fits perfect. The factory battery tray has width adjusters so you can push it closer to the centerline of the car...very nice

I got mine from Audi a year ago for $143 call commonwealth Audi.

There are things that I get from Audi because saving $20 on a battery over 5 years not worth it. I would stay away from Kragen.. Also does other aftermarket fit right on the battery slot?

Re: Optima Battery, Autolight, or Duralast?

I checked forums when I replaced mine as I was in the market for an Optima red top. I found that you had to do some minor mods to secure it. I ended up getting the Duralast at Auto Zone. It fit perfectly in the spot and worked with the factory mount.

Sams club sells Optimas cheap, like $119 or something. Get the red top. Yellow top if you have gobs of batt drain due to sound system.

Re: Optima Battery, Autolight, or Duralast?

My tuner sold me a Genuine VW/Audi battery for $115.

It was the smallest one they made, and compared to the stock one it replaced it saved 15 lbs. Cold cranking amps are the same as the large sized OEM ones, but I just can't sit in the car as long with it drawing off the battery alone.

For the record, I did want an Optima Yellow-top, but being a broke-ass student couldn't justify the extra cost. I'll do that later, when I get a system which would actually necessitate one.

yellow top if you really need the extra power. red top for everything else. got mine, works and fits like a charm.

i believe mine was the red top 35/75. it's smaller than the oem battery, but still fits tight. weighs a bunch less too.

Re: Optima Battery, Autolight, or Duralast?

Get a Optima Red Top... I think most of the guys here use Red Top. I have one...
Make sure you get Optima Red Top 34R. If you're anal about the position of the label, the 34R will put it in the right way... Oh BTW, not modding for this battery. It came with all the plastic holders you'll need to tie it down.

Here is a good thread on the Red Top.... http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ghlight=optima

Is it a Duralast? 48-DL or 49-DL? What I am wondering is the cold cranking amps and reserve capacity. Mine is a 48-DL with 700 cca and 115min reserve cap. Been trying to find something in the 800cca+ range with a 150min+ reserve but the only battery's in that class weigh the same as stock. Guess you can't have the best of both since it's probably just more lead they add to get those #'s I'm looking for...

Re: Optima Battery, Autolight, or Duralast?

    Optima Red Top 34R.

The only issue with the Optimas is that the military has been buying them like mad since the Iraq conflict started. Optima has had to ramp up production beyond their normal capacity and had more bad batteries slip through. I had one that was delivered charged but wouldn't take a charge in the car. It was replaced for free on the spot so no worries on that end. Just be sure it works before starting off on a long road trip. Odds are that you'll get a good one anyway.
