Rustoleum makes some good stuff... i used the regular (non-wheel specialty) stuff on the weights on my wheel and it's still on there same as day 1

Re: anyone try Rustoleum wheel coating instead of Duplicolor??..

    thanks for the feedback guys..

so anyone try the actual Rustoleum wheel paint yet??..

my wheels are being blasted right now and i either need order some Duplicolor (since my local Autozone switched to Rustoleum) or just go with the Rustoleum.. it would be nice to get it locally so if i run short i can just grab another can, but everyone and their brother has used the Duplicolor with good success..

also i am still trying to find out if the Rustoleum Silver is any less sparkly..

    thanks ..

Here is a set of 17" TSW Rims I did for a friend with a Vdub using Rustoleum. I did two coats of the gunmetal, waited a day, and 2 coats of clear coat and 2 years later, and 2 jersey winters, and they still look as good as the day I finished them. for Rustoleum!

they are being media blasted down to the bare aluminum right now.. i know some have recommended against it, but these guys do aluminum rims all the time and know what media and air pressure to use so they dont tear up the rims.. so de-greasing and making sure there is no dust, and prep should be very good..

Matt, did you clear your Movens??.. many using the Duplicolor havent.. i wasnt planning on it, but maybe i will??..

if the regular rustoleum holds up that well, i am sure the rustoleum for wheels will do at least as well.. i really like the idea of using the specific wheel stuff to help with heat and brake dust corrosion.. but limited color options.. i wanted a dark silver, but not near as dark as the graphite.. also heard the silver has too many flakes in it..

    decisions, decisions..

    not always true.

i prepped and painted a set of wheels with some regular krylon gloss black paint a few years back and after one winter, they were beat up as shit.

then stripped em the next spring. prepped them the exact same way as before and painted them with regular Rustoleum gloss black paint and they lasted that summer, winter, spring, and up until i sold it.

    i highly recomend Rustoleum

I agree that not all paints are created equal, but even good paint, and a good paint job will wear fast if proper prep was not done.

my point was it doesn't matter what you use if you don't prep properly, not that the paint doesn't make a difference

I cant remember what the paint color was, I think I still have the can in my garage, I will check when I get home from work but Im pretty sure I just picked out the color that looked most gun-metal like.

I know that it wasnt the high temp one. I think it was actually a "for wheel painting" type of paint. I did this over 2 years ago so the memory is fuzzy. As I said I will let you know once I get home.

    thanks pufftrees..

totally agree -- 1st step is proper prep (which i think i have covered), 2nd is decent paint..
