fuel filter/fuel line q's... forewarning- i'm an idiot

disclaimer: i know i fucked up horribly.

ok, so i swapped filters this afternoon. i got the rear connectors out no prob (the blue and black ones). i go to take the forward ones out and i surpass all common sense. from what i gather the forward ones are pinch and pull as well, but i tried to pry out the side, as i thought that they had a "C" clip that needs to be pulled out. long story short, i broke the ends that clip on to the filter.
they will hold for now, as i had to.... prepare yourself.... zip tie them. they don't really NEED the zip ties, but it's a temporary guarantee that they won't shoot out on my.

    onto my questions...
-(long shot here, but..) has anyone ever done this before?
-does anyone know if i can just replace the ends?
-or if they can do splices in the lines?
-or will i have to replace these lines?

i'm depressed, beings i work on helicopters for a living, but does anyone have any info or advice?

    thanks in advance.

I've zip tied stuff before. It should hold long enough for you to get the proper clip. Don't feel bad. I think anyone who works on stuff sooner or later screws something up.

    Thats why helicopters are dangerous......

    Joking of course...

Zipties are fine...you probably dont even have to replace the clip with one but if it makes you feel better replace it. Weve all done stupid stuff....3 wks ago I dumped 6qts of oil on my garage floor with an oil change gone horribly wrong. Thank god it came up with some speedy dry and my floor is epoxied.

well i'm quite perturbed since i can always visualize the lines popping off while i'm on the interstate... which will lead to fuel spilling and my ass fixing it on the side of the road.

i think i have an automotive emergency complex.

I think that is normal, or if not I have a complex as well :). I imagined the exact same thing after breaking the clips on not one, but two of my coil packs (I HATE those piece of shit clips, I know the guys who designed this motor are geniuses, but whomever specified the materials for some of these parts needs more training, unless they look at breaking clips as a revenue stream, in that case JOB WELL FUCKING DONE, I just touch the things and they break).

Funny, because when I was a car mechanic for a living and very little free income, I did a lot worse to my car to keep it running and never gave it a second thought (duct tape all over the place, parts made out of coke cans and coat hangers, you name it). Now fi I don't have the OEM part and everything didn't go perfectly... I get all nervous an imagine the worst (I just changed my wheels... what is that vibration... is my wheel gonna fall off and I will die cause I am going 100MPH?).

Anyway, with a fuel filter and the overlap of the fuel line on the fuel filter nub or whatever, a zip tie is probably better than the clip that was on there, if those clips are anything like the coil pack ones :).

I would be more worried about a fire hazard then anything else.

You should be able to replace the line entirley. Stop by the dealership and have a look at the fuel system diagrams. I would buy new lines, I just could not take it mentally that my fuel line is held on by zip ties.lol

Why not, zip ties are probably better than the plastic clamps I found holding fuel lines together under the hood! Ran into those when removing everything to install my air filter.

Assuming there is atleast 1/4 - 1/2 inch overlap where the line connects to the filter, and it is a good zip tie... then no chance it will leak if you tightened it enough (but not too much to stretch the tie). Still would be better to replace the line I agree, but nothing to worry about I don't think.
