Reclaimed water spots on a black car :(

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried washing them off, clay baring them off, and waxing them off. They won't go away. They are all over my hood what should I do??

I also have fine swirls on my trunk and roof, you can only see it at certain angles and when the sunlight hits directly which is pretty much all the time here in Florida. Once again the clay bar and waxing didn't help...

    Hood after claying and waxing:

Sorry for the cell pictures my digital is broken and if you guys can't see the spots I'll take better pictures in the sun tomorrow.

    Thanks!

Re: Reclaimed water spots on a black car :(

I am having the same problem. I have been able to reduce them quite a bit with meguiars paint cleaner and paint polish, but they are still there. The swirls were pretty much all eliminated with the cleaner and polish though. If anyone has a way to get these spots off we would both like to know. I also have spots on my sunroof and windows that won't come off.

you need acid to dissolves the minerals. make sure to neutralize the acid with a good auto shampoo and polish/wax as normal

I wouldnt use any acid on my paint. Polish your paint, but use a real polish (Meguiars step 2 is not a "real" polish). I use meguiars #83 in my paint with the porter cable and a polishing foam, gets rid of water drops. If one pass does not achieve what you are looking for, then try a second and maybe a third.
Meguiars states that Scratch X used by hand can help with water spots, may be you can give it a try.

And remeber something, wax toyr car to avoid water spots. I do it once a month and has given me great results.

Thanks man. I actually have some meg. scratch X in the garage. I used some kind of meg. paste? It worked great on the rest of the car but the swirls and water spots remained....

You do not want to polish water spots as the mineral deposits become trapped in the buffing pad and the grit is rubbed into your paint. They need to be removed with acid then follow with your polish and wax.

vinegar is an acid. try it on a spot to see if it works. Otherwise, if you've washed and clayed, I'd move to a proper polish.

it depends what the spots are exactly. they could be water spot "etching" in the clearcoat which is caused by the minerals and acid content of rain. they actually etch little spots in your clearcoat where the drops where. this can be corrected by simple machine polishing.
