I was set on Audi from the get-go. I love the car. The way it looks, the way it feels, the way it makes me feel...you all know what im talking about. So i visit some local dealers and they either didnt have the price i was looking for or the color or any myriad of things. But overall, i had a good experience at them. That was until i went to Bell Audi in their new location in Edison, NJ.
I decided to venture there after work one day to take a look at what cars were available. I walk in the glass-walled showroom trying to keep that shit-eating grin off my face. The first thing i noticed was the R8 in front of me, followed by the group of salesmen talking amongst themselves near a desk. So I looked at some of the cars in the showroom while i waited for a sales person to come assist me....
There was me and one other couple in the dealership. They were already being helped. 5 minutes go by and im still waiting...Just to let you know, i work in finance and wear a suit to work and was wearing one while at the dealership. However, I am young (25) and was clearly "prequalified", or better than that i was "Pre-Disqualified" to buy an Audi in the sales peoples minds.
I head up to the desk in the showroom and approach the college girl(who was pretty cute) sitting there. She asks me with a smile "How can i help you?" to which i resisted the urge for inappropriate commentary and simply said "I would like to speak with a salesman."
The cute girl picks up her phone and dials a salesmen. I see a heavy set man pick up the phone and mutter something into it as i catch eye contact with him. He calls me over as if i am somebody working for him. I approach his desk and wait a second for him to stand to shake my hand... which was a waste of a second because he never stands up. The conversation goes as follows:
Him: "What car are you interested in?"
Me: "I would like to buy an Audi"
Him: "What is your price range?"
Me: "It depends on the car."
Him: "Well i cant help you if i dont know your price range..."
PAUSE... I decide to give him an answer just low enough to piss him off.
Me: "Under $20k"
Him: "We dont have anything that cheap" He says this loud as hell, and at this point there are several other people now browsing the showroom. The man honestly embarassed me which is hard to do.
Me: "Have a good day"
I then went to the service department to get coils replaced after i bought my car and the service manager told me he didnt want to work on my car because he didnt want to be liable for the mistakes of other dealerships(bought my car at Jack Daniels). I was honestly shocked at this then told him my warranty allows me to get this car fixed at any Audi dealership. He says ok but refuses to give me a loaner because i didnt buy the car there. Gotta drive up to friggin Fair Lawn now which is 45 minutes to get my car serviced by somebody who cares.
The overall experience was demeaning and embarassing.
