    Headlight range control defective

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got this message when I started my car today. And I see the lights don't go up/down as they use to do when I start the car.

I have removed the headlights, when I removed the bumper. And I started the car while the lights where not mounted. And the message came up. But the message keeps on comming now, after I mounted the lights back on.

Is something broken, or do I maybe have to go to a audi garage and get the headlights adjusted and fault codes deleted?

I have a feeling nobody else has come across this issue yet. You're really one of the first I've heard of removing the bumper and all that so far.

Blake P: I also removed the headlights when mounting laminx tint. But I didn't start the car without lights.
Guess I will find out in the weekend. Going to run a VagCom diagnose on it then.

    Tekieru: stealership? what is that?

He's playing with words, a dealership (your Audishop) that's expensive steals our money, hence stealership... I think

xileh: had the same problem with mine A6 once. Xenon leveling setup got f00ked. U need to use VAC COM or VAS to fix it.. Nothing got damaged.

Had this happen when had front right fender replaced due to fender bender. Body shop removed the front right light assembly and upon reinstall error message was there. Body shop took it to the dealer and dealer reset codes and all came back to normal.

Yah but they charged the body shop $120 to reset the lights. Repair shops need to be careful with all these new sensors to take the cost of having to reset these things for insurance quoting purposes. The body shop had to flip the bill on this one since they had closed the claim and give us the car back with the lights defective. We brought it back and said "you fix it" as they suggeste WE take it to the dealer and see if they can reset. I was like, sorry, you didn't put it back together right, you drive it down to the dealer and consume your time not mine. Anyway, it all worked out....plus I had the poor bastards pay for the rental for 2 days while the dealer had it.

Well. Then I guess I will try to delete the codes. Have a friend that got VagCom and he will do it for me. Hope it is that easy

    Thanks for answers.

just got ecodes and ran into this fault code:

01535 - Control Circuit for Right Headlight Range Adjusting Motor (V49)

any ideas? I hope it isn't a damaged auto-leveling motor in the headlight :(

I had this happen when I lowered my car and the servos within the headlights could not properly adjust because the manual set screws were set too low. I reset the headlight level and cleared the code with a VAG-COM. Hasn't come up since. HTH

I noticed recently that when I gun it at night, I can see my headlights adjust to point down. Even when I left off the gas, they don't always auto-level back up. Then later on at random they level themselves and I feel like the ppl in front of me think I'm brighting them. Is this what you're talking about Jacon? I'm lowered as well.

    Hi All,

Explanation how I fixed it and how much it will cost GB pounds:

On my Audi A4 B8 2008 2.7TDI I had warning light pop out on my dash ''range headlight control defective'' so I went to mechanic to get this checked on computer £25 and he found this error ''sensor for vehicle front open circuit/short with power'' so Ive asked how much gone be to fix it? He told me that it will be another £102 for a part and £55 for an hour labour + VAT ended approx. £177!!! Sacre bleu!!! so I went to Audi dealer and ask them for a part number, for first they said that my Audi doesn't have front sensor?! hmmm...I knew that he doesn't have clue what he is talking about because day before I saw this video https://youtu.be/4QMYVhAtcuU and I found this sensor on my car exactly on the same left hand side like this guy on his A4 B6.......alright so when he said this, then I stopped believe him and just ask him to provide me the part number + price and how much it will be to fixed this in Audi garage......he said part will cost £155 and labour £150 an hour!!! WHAT!!! My answer was only one....Thanks for that pal, I will think about it and come back to you soon...yeah of course. After all this bad experience which I had with mechanics I decided to searched the Item on Ebay.co.uk and I found it exactly what I was looking for 1T0907503A ...200Hz second hand for £30 :) so this afternoon Ive put this new/second hand part on, took me an hour to do and guess what, fixed! Dash light has gone (no computer needed) and headlights back to normal and adjusting itself, Happy days...

I have had this issue before and if you have a VCDS you can go in and do a test and it will run the range and reset it.

Just your basic 350$ cable and was able to fix it, you cannot clear the code a lot of times the lights just have to be reset, park on a flat surface and allow it to move the motion and it should clear worked on my T3 Toureg as well.

    :-P

C7 A6? Can't say for sure, but ETKA seems to imply it'll be in the left end of the dash, on the cabin side of the firewall if it's like the A4.
    https://audi.7zap.com/en/usa/audi+a6.../9/941-941025/

You're looking for something like this:
    https://wolfautoparts.com/headlight-...7a-274271.html

Mike, you've got the front left and front right headlamps, you've got a level measurement arm on the left side front and rear control arms, then you have the control module that reads the movement of the level arms and tells the headlamp motors how to move. There's not a separate control module for left and right, as it sounds like you're implying.

For our A4, it's behind/above the glove box.

Beside the module, check the level sensor and see if the arm is broken, if they are you will get the same error message on the dash. Of course it's always better to do a scan with VCDS. I've replaced both left and right rear arms.

For vehicle without ADS, I think there is only one in the front and one in the rear. For ADS suspension, there are two in the front and two in the rear.

    Without ADS
    Front 8K0941285P
    Rear 8K0941309F

    ADS
    Front 8K0941285P
    Rear Left 8K0941309D
    Rear Right 8K0941310C

The arm on 8K0941309F is exactly the same as 8K0941309D or 8K0941310C, only different is the sensor.
