    235 tire vs 245 tire

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
what are some of the benefits / negatives between a 235 tire and a 245 tire?? both aesthetically and performance wise?

they will be on 19" wheels and et35 if that makes a difference.

i know the 245 is a wider tire, and from pictures it seems to give a thicker looking sidewall.. is this the only difference?

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

I think the only difference is looks.
I am running 245 but with 18" et 35 wheels with OEM sport suspension and there is no difference at all in performance and no issues at all.

I really don't know if lowering your car with 19/245 can give you rubbing issues, let's wait for someone with that setup to chime in...

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

I have 235's on 19's lowered 1.5" on H&R and haven't had any issues with rubbing unless driving four deep in the car. Otherwise they are perfectly fine.

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

245 has a higher tire wall, so you may have rubbing issues on a 19" lowered setup. if you find that there won't be rubbing issues, my personal opinion is that 245's look a lot better than 235's. i'm a fan of either stretched tires, or taller sidewalls. i've seen a couple 245 tire setups and it looks great in person.

245's will be my next set. The only real difference you may feel is a bit quicker turn-in with 235's.

Some "true" 235's will actually be as wide or wider than a 245 from another tire manufacturer. It all depends on what you buy. Personally I say go with a 235.

is there something about the 235 that you look more? other than potential rubbing issues?

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

What's your wheel width as well? Here is an idea of what 245/35/19's look like on a 19x8 et 35 wheel. Personally I prefer the filled out look instead of a stretched look. I like how the rubber is pretty much flush with the spokes of the wheels.

is there a reason why you want 245's over 235's?

im buying my wheels / tires soon, so i just want to gather some good info before making my decision..

(thats right mofsteel, im buying new wheels, this is the perfect time to plug your wheels, ha)

thanks for the pictures glass. the wheels will be 19 x 8.5 so im guessing if i got 245 mine would be slightly more stretched than yours.. .any rubbing issues??

I was rubbing when I was pretty well slammed. I had the car raised a little bit and I still rub a little bit on big dips in the road, but it's pretty rare.

If the wheels are going to be 8.5 inches wide, I'd definitely go with 245's so you don't have too much stretch going on. Personally I don't like the stretched look, but hey that might be part of our 10% differences...

    ^ LOL!

and mofsteel, that looks pretty damn good and flush. im probably going to go with general tires or something along those lines, so im not really sure how 'true' their 235 tire is

I can see a tiny bit of stretch, but it definitely looks better than I thought it would! But, you're saying those 235's are technically more like a 245? Do you have any more pics that are a little more angled like the ones I posted?

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

so mofsteel.. if i have this correct.. your saying that your 235's run more like 245's.. so if i were to go with general tires i would probably want 245's to have a smiliar look??

and does what about comfort? will 245's ride any better or more comfortable than a slightly stretched 235?

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

The difference between 235 & 245 is only 3/8" (or about the width of a pencil). That's really not much for any--even highly trained drivers--to notice the difference in handling. The biggest thing you have to worry about is wheel diameter, wheel offset and tire side wall height... I'd be more worried about those causing any rubbing than tire width.
Excuse me sir, but you left your muffler at the light back there.

    ^ What he said.
You're not going to notice the difference.
All the research I did before I purchased my wheel/tire combo pointed to rubbing with 245's and a drop. So I went with a 235 and NEVER rubbed.

Re: 235 tire vs 245 tire

I went from 235 to 245 on a stock 18x8 titanium package wheel. Handling depends much much more on the type of tire you choose as opposed to the size. A stretched tire will allow you to go slightly lower, but you have less contact surface with the road. I think you'll be fine with 245 on an 8.5 inch wheel.

I'm running Dunlop Duriza summer tires by the way.
