fyi, if you mess up on one...adhessive remover and paper towels take it right off as long as it isnt completely dry. actually, never tryed it when it is completely dry. so it might work then too.

ahhh nice... i want to LIGHTLY tint my tails.. but didnt want it to be permanent incase i dont like the outcome
i just want to darken them a little so the red isnt so bright.. If you can get the night shade off after it dries that would be amazing.. I doubt I would need to remove it but id rather know i can before i try it out and end up not liking it. Can anyone confirm if it is possible to remove after it dries? Because if its not possible ill probably just try to put a light layer of tint over them because i know i can remove those if needed.

Do you guys sand the tails first? What about a clear coat over the VHT?

Do not sand. That will ruin the tail lights.

I've done 4 sets now and i've gotten pretty good at it. Just wash them with warm water and soap, dry them off completely and then do one really light coat first.

Then wait for a while so that one coat dries completely, even though i know you may be anxious to do more quickly. But if you wait for that first coat (about 30-45 minutes should be enough) it eliminates some of the slickness of the plastic tail light so the nite shades won't run as easily and each additional coat will go on darker. So it conserves the paint as well. And i found it easy to ALWAYS spray on something first, before each coat, before you go to spray on the tail lights because the first spray even between coats comes out runny, so it gets a nicer spray pattern by doing that. So i spray just to the side first to get rid of the runny spray then i spray from like 6" back full across back and forth and working my way upwards until the tail light is covered. If you allow enough time between coats to dry they will actually dry glossy as well instead of looking like spray too. But be careful because if you spray too much this stuff runs really easily.

I didn't do it myself but mine are sprayed...clear with a couple drops of black. The body shop did them when I was getting some other stuff done so I'm not sure exactly what it ran me.

VHT seems like the way to go though...

    Re: Smoked taillights?

the only way to go is with lamin x or headlight armor. if you get a ticket all you need to do is peel it off. not so much with the night shade. if you get a ticket have fun replacing the both rear tail lights which will cost a few hundred dollars

Nope. Window tint wouldn't really suffice. I think your best bet would be to go with a film.

    Re: Smoked taillights?

    as for quality of darkness..
    is nightshade or lamin-x better?
Its going on a BB audi so which would match better?

I know the vht works pretty well, even though when i did it, it didnt come out as glossy as i liked so i used a high temp clear and a little buff..

    anything?

I did VHT and it looks great! Take your time to get even coats and make sure each tail light has the same darkness.

if you want it to be super glossy use a clear coat on top.
it will last longer that way too.

VHT. I did sand mine first, very very very fine. 1000 grit. I also used many clear coats and polished them.

BNZ if you come down to the seattle area any time find an action auto, they carry it. I just picked some up today to tint my tail. It is like $12 a can. Plus Seattle is a nice place to visit from Vancouver. I know I make it to Vancouver often.
