    avic f90bt installation help...

so i am installing the f90bt. i have the Metra 70-1787 wiring harness, i have the bose system.

I cant get the unit to power on. I have noticed something. the ACC and Illumination wires on the metra harness plug in empty slots on the cars harness. what is that about? i have pictures.

the front of the stock power harness

    back of metra harness

its not making sense to me, why the acc red and illumination orange wires plug into nothing on the stock harness.

On the stock power harness which is (wire color wise) the power wire? the illumination wire?

excuse the crappy bb curve pics

I had that unit put into my B6 S4 - no problem. But I had a shop do it. They didn't use the metra harness soooo maybe that's the problem. I suggest you take it in to somebody who knows what they're doing.

Go to search and type in avic d3. There is a thread that tells you exactly how to do it. In order to power the unit on, you must use an alternate source of power. Being the red wire is the acc, where you have to hook it up to the homelink fuse. Then the black one is the one that provides power from the harness.

    QFT.

Read the Avic thread and you will understand. I think metraonline.com has instructions for that harness and mentions alternate 12v power source.

I am getting ready to install my AVH-P3100DVD which is almost the same without nav. Post up some install pics?

I wired mine to a alternate ignition... like right under the steering column... i just used a test light and looked for a ignition.. also on the rear speakers you have to wire them up bypassing the stock amp or they'll be really really quiet... good luck..

^^ Mine don't seem quiet, but i get that stupid whining noise that I'm trying to figure out. Do you have that? Or how do you wire around the subwoofer?

    Re: avic f90bt installation help...

    found another oddity

If i connect the red and yellow wire from the pioneer power harness together with the + on the stock harness it will work. but it stays on all the time. its a connection to the battery. if i remove either the yellow or red the unit will turn off. whats that about?

    Re: avic f90bt installation help...

The radio needs a constant power source (on even without the key) this keeps the radio's memory settings, etc (yellow). The red is your switched power, which turns the radio on (if you really want to, you could wire everything to constant, but dont forget to turn off the radio manually when you leave the car)

The buzzing noise is a ground loop normally. Try changing where the ground is for the radio or if you have an aftermarket amplifier make sure you have a good ground. I need to tear my stuff apart because i have the noise as well. =/

    Hywell,

Did you ever resolve your ground loop issue? I'm having the same issue with my car and was wondering if you were able to isolate the connection that was causing the noise.

    Re: avic f90bt installation help...

Go look on the D3 thread. I had my whining resolved by getting the RCA ground loops? I forgot what they are called, I just went to radio shack and told the guy I had this issue with RCA's, and he gave me the connections. It worked like a charm.
