Thumbs up 35 vs 45 offset..?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking into buying some 18-inch replica wheels, but not too sure what the difference would be between the 35 offset vs the 45, is that in regards to wheel distance from fender? Would I need spacers to get a nice flush look?

    thanks

    Re: 35 vs 45 offset..?

I'm no expert but my winter wheels are a 43et and i put 20mm in the rear and 10mm in the front to make the wheels stick out to the fender. I think the 35 offset is what you are looking for.

45 is going to sit further further into the fender than then 35. FYI, 35 is going to sit pretty flush while 45 would be tucked inside the fender.

I was looking at RS6 reps but the offset for those are 35, and then I was looking at some USP reps and their offset is 45, so not sure which to go with.

This isn't a very good pic but here is the rs4's with a 38mm offset, i think your 35 is the best bet

I have wheels with a 35 offset and I would still like to get spacers to make them flush with the fenders. 45 is way too far in imho.

I gave up on pointing out that kind of stuff long time ago... AZers go for looks. Safety is an afterthought.

    Re: 35 vs 45 offset..?

Offsets mean absolutely nothing if we don't have the width of the wheels. However, that being said stay away from anything with a higher number than 35. The wheels will sit in way to far no matter what the size.

Wheel width would be 8 or 8.5

There are more variables actually. Ride height, which determines front camber, and whatever camber was set in the rear, up to about -2 deg camber, at which point you can easily subtract another ~5mm from the offset (or add, if we're talking about spacers).

    Re: 35 vs 45 offset..?

so what exactly does offset have to do with clearance for brakes such as b5s4 brakes? i have stock sports, 17x7.5 et 45 that barely clear b5s4 calipers. if i go with a lower offset, such as 38 or 35, does that mean i wouldn't clear the calipers? or does it have to do more with wheel design than offset?

et35 would push the wheels further from the brakes giving you more clearance.

It's mostly about the spoke design, and size of lip (if there is one). But lets say there is no lip, so the more agressive the positive offset is (number moving closer to 0, not away from it), the more curved the spokes are towards the hub area, and the more space there is for the BBK caliper. Here is an example I quickly whipped up in AutoCAD:

    mxrz to the rescue!

i was worried that i'd have to declare this thread a fail while reading... all that offset talk with no width, height, alignment, etc etc etc talk..

nice picture btw. not bad for a fast example at all

I have just recently purchased a 2019 Lexus IS 300 AWD FSport
I’m looking to purchase a set of winter wheels for it and by what I’ve read, it would appear that typically if I’m going from a +45 (stock offset) to a +35, I should be safe. Does this sound correct?
I’m looking at a set of stock Lexus wheels from an RX300 that are 17” instead of 18” as I’m looking for a little more sidewall for winter. I did some research and I should have no issues going down 1” in wheel diameter.
