    Minimum rotor thickness?

Anybody know what the minimum rotor thickness is for the front brakes on a B6S4? I'm trying to decide if it's time to replace the OEM units or if I'm good for one more set of pads.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

need to replace their only good for one set of pads. The rotors are to soft to resurface. I tried that on my b5 s4 cuz audi listed a spec but everyone said not to cut them i cut them and they lasted about 6 months or about 2K miles befroe they started to pulstate and vibrate.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

    Worst advice ever..

My B6 has 24k on it and i just changed the pads and the pads only. The rotors were fine, they were not warped and there was no pulsating and they were well within spec when i had the car inspected upon purchase 2 months prior. There was no need to cut or resurface the rotors in my instance.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

well ya if you dont cut them im sure you will be fine. if their is no warping or grooves or any lips. When i just hung pads on mine i had to cut them because of the lips i didnt want any noise. but then again i was using some mintex redbox.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

New thickness is 30mm, replacement is at 28mm. It took me 65K to reach that point.

If you need to get them turned, they probably need replacing anyway.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

Thanks for the min. thickness values, I'll have to measure my rotors this evening.

BTW, has anyone tried these DBA 4000 Series rotors? The new JHM ones seem to be at a good price point, but the wear surface seems to be extremely thin.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

Usually the min thickness is stampedd on the face of the rotor, measure it with your vernier caliper...

Many aftermarket rotors are 4 times the price for little or no gain in performance over our factory rotors in most applications.

I'd just buy the OEM for $73 each. We have pretty robust brakes already. Just a pad change and fluid can do a lot.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

Sorry for the necro bump...can someone confirm whether or not the 28MM min rotor thickness is accurate for a B7 RS4. I also checked the face of the rotor for a stamp indicating this information and found nothing.

    Re: Minimum rotor thickness?

It was already mentioned, but let me say it again, Audi says DO NOT turn (cut) their rotors!

If they are below 28.00 mm when you do your brake job, you are to REPLACE them.

You can usually run 2 set of pads on Audi rotors before they require replacement. The lip that shows on the edge after running through a set of pads will not be a cause of noise when installing new pads, again don't cut them. What will cause noise is if all the caliper and pad contact surfaces are not cleaned.

RS4 (Brembo) min rotor thickness is 32 mm.

    B6/B7 S4 is 28 mm min.
