    Stock Exhaust Rear Muffler Delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone done it? Significant sound difference from it? Does anyone have any sound clips? Seems like with how small the gain from a cat back is might as well use what I already have.

Possibly looking to also swap out the mid muffler. Any suggestions for a specific muffler or brand?

I cut out both the rear and center mufflers on my a6 2.7t when i had it, was a LOT louder, but also got some drone from cutting the resonator. I'd say cut the rear muffler and go from there. If its too loud, get a magnaflow or something, and if u want more adjusting from there maybe replace the resonator too

I friend of mine had his center res cut out and it was louder, he said he noticed a lil differance during the rev range of the engine to quote him. His car was just stock software when he did that.

On my noggy, I just did piggies, deleted the cats, and deleted the resonator. I like it as it still sounds as quiet as before at idle and part throttle, but has more ALOT more grunt to it when I get on it.

For me, it's perfect, I'm not looking for attention or a loud exhaust or the best performance. I just wanted a little somethin' somethin' for when I get on it...

As for the silver car, well, I don't think that will have much of an exhaust

Thumbs up Re: Stock Exhaust Rear Muffler Delete

I bought mine with a Scorpion cat back. I thought it was stock its so quiet... You can hear the engine before the exhaust. It may be louder from the back but its quiet. Ive been thinking of taking out the cats just for a little extra grunt but its my DD too so I dont need to get pulled over or arrested for stomping some Honda that trys to get some because they hear my exhaust... haha
    Anyway, hope it works...

Start with removing the rear muffler. See how you like it and go from there.

Isn't the rear muffler the only "real" muffler? It will be pretty loud if you delete the rear muffler, as opposed to the center resonator which only "cleans up" the sound. Check the S4-ORCE video earlier in the thread to see what it'll sound like with the rear muffler removed.

I think I'm going to remove the resonator first, and then see if that changes the sound at all.

You are correct. The only real muffler is the rear muffler. The resonator is mainly for reducing drone while cruising on the highway. It will make it a little louder, but is the drone worth it? I dont know how the stock exhaust will sound with just the resonator off. I know some aftermarket exhausts dont have the drone spot in a cruising rpm. Worse comes to worse you can weld it back on.

Yeah, you bring up a good point. There probably isn't that much added drone over stock, but from the vids, I don't really see deleting the resonator as being super worthwhile. I thought about it, but the sound really doesn't change much and unfortunately, the rear muffler always has a "sandblaster" type sound to it, not that clean, aftermarket tone. It's always too "whooshy" and "airy" sounding. Sigh.

I'd only get it done if it cost me $50-$60 at most. $100+ is just not worth it at all. You won't be gaining any performance, and the sound will at most change only slightly. Keep saving. I'd be all over the SSAC if it isn't too loud.
