Tail Light Removal on B7 A4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anybody know of a DIY for the removal of the entire tail lamp assembly? Or has anyone done this and can explain it to me? I'm replacing mine tomorrow and it would be awesome if I knew what I was doing before I stick my nose in there.

    TIA

The outsides I've done, I'm sure the inside are just as easy. fly as removed them.

For the outsides there is a little circle inside the trunk on the carpet that will pop out. you will see a screw and all you do is unscrew it and pull out the light. it is held in with 2 little rubber nubs that just pop out.
    The usual things!!

For the inner, you need to remove the trunk liner and remove the 10 mm nut

Any tips on how to remove the liner?

I see a snap type connector, center right (if I pull the liner from the right edge) but how do you unclip? I'm affraid to pull and break something.

the inner trunk liner is held by clips on the outer "rim" of the liner (i dont remember how many) and two + screws 1 under the inside handle and 1 under the glow in the dark trunk release handle. the screw under the handle can be unscrewed easily but for the trunk release you need to pop off the glow in the dark piece and you will see the screw behind the lever

Um, maybe mine is different. But there are two circle "flaps" that you just flip open to get access to the 10mm nut. No need to remove the entire liner.

I think you are getting the inner light and out light mixed up here. The circle flaps are for the outer part of the tail light, and removing the lining from the trunk in for the inner part of the tail light assembly.

It is very easy to remove the liner, like AudiTFSI3o3 said, there are 2 screws which must be undone first, the one of the right is easy, the one on the left with the handle is a bit harder. The handle pop's out (its basically a plastic ball joint that just pops out) and the screw is behind there. After that, it is time to just pry the liner off. I believe there are 8 clips, 3 on top and bottom and one on each side but i may be mistaken. The easiest way to do this is find a spot where you can pull it away from the metal a get your fingers in between the liner and metal and start to slowly pull out. (it will take quite a bit of force so dont be afraid, the clips are very strong and wont break) and then just pop them off!!

    good luck

Mine aren't circluar for the inners (that's the outers) but I do have square access panels on the trunk liner to get those 10mm nuts WITHOUT removing the liner....

I'm bumping this up b/c I need to change the left brake light bulb, how do I achieve this? I see one 3" round carpet patch, I pop it and see the black plastic hex, I unscrew it, the tail light housing comes out half way....this is where I'm stuck. Can someone assist on how to get to the brake light bulb? Also what is the bulb#?

    Thanks.

Its sitting with two plastic posts still that you need to wiggle out of the grommets they sit in.. They can be quite brittle so be very careful, here's a pic of what you're dealing with.. The plastic posts are on the far left
