    JHM's Helpful info regarding failed AIRBAG MODULES for B5 A4 and S4

I was reminded about the nice people getting sued for bad CPR attempts who were just trying to help and this falls in that category. I REPEAT. "Try this at your own risk"

    Double post from the B5 S4 forum. I didn't want to leave the A4 peeps out.

    This is for those who can't communicate with their airbag module in VAG, have an airbag code indicating an internal memory error or other modules have codes that they can't communicate with the airbag.

    THE STORY OF HOW WE LEARNED ABOUT A LOW COST SOLUTION:

    Well my adventure started with a friend's 2000 A4 with a failed 8D0 959 655 G airbag module. I looked for used ones and couldn't find any used G boxes. I found a TON of used K boxes. I was concerned and couldn't figure out why. So I decided to go ahead and put a K box in. The connector on the car just needed the little long thin tabs that stick up to be ground off. After grinding off the tabs on his in car connector the K box fit beautifully. He has been fine for 6 months now. I think the 8D0 959 655 K just plugs in different but works perfectly fine when you mod the connector. We have had no codes either with his car.

    So Matt@JHM posted in a thread several weeks ago when someone was concerned with aribags that we had a solution. Well since that time I have had at least 10 emails with failed airbag modules. ALL had a G box that had failed and either couldn't be accessed with VAG or had an internal memory code. So basically I found that G boxes are the ones that fail left and right. Everyone with a failed unit has a G. I am having trouble getting used G airbag modules and this explains why. They all fail.

    So I decided to dig deeper and called my local Audi Parts manager that will reesearch anything for us. Well here is what I found.

    PN = 8D0 959 655 G
    For - Driver, passenger, side and head airbags (as per their ETKA and mine)

    PN = 8D0 959 655 K
    For - Driver, passenger, side and head airbags (as per their ETKA and mine)
    NOTE: K superceeds to G. (BINGO!)

    The results showed that the K box actually superceeds to G. However it looks like the G fails a lot. This is not uncommon for an "updated part" to be worse than the original. So this is why I was able to put the K in my buddies car. K was the original number.

    I could have kept this info to myself and just started selling used K boxes and giving info on the mod, but I figured I would share and hopefully some would want to get the airbag from me. Many of you guys are loyal to us and we appreciate that, this is why we don't mind giving good info that helps the community from time to time.

    With that being said, if anyone wants one I can get you a used K box for $150 shipped and I can guarantee if for 30 days. If you want a NEW OEM G box I can get them for $600 for you. It may take a week or so for me to ship. I have not been keeping them on the shelf easily. I will be buying a bunch of these for stock now now in light of this for those who want one quick.

    Hope this info helps and if anyone has any other PN Airbafg modules they have had issues with please share. I can get more details on those modules as well.

    Sincerely,

    good info, my stupid airbag light came on the other day for the first time and i just figured out it is not because of a loose sensor under the seat, so i need to get out my laptop and scan it. hopefuly the bag itself isnt bad.

    Yeah just get the codes and if it is an internal error to the airbag module and your PN is G then it is the dreaded bad airbag module.

    No problem.

    But obviously people would be trying this at their own risk. As more people try it I am sure more info will surface.

    Im very interested in buying that K module from you, i just have a couple questions. Is the software version and coding listed when connecting with VAG COM the same for both the K and G modules, or are they both the same? I would think if they have the same software version number, they would basically be identical.. thats why Im asking. Thanks

    Run a scan on it. Pretty sure the code is "65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error". From what I know that means the ECU and airbag control module are no longer talking to eachother and you have to replace the module.

    Hi,

    I'd like to purchase the K version airbag module. Can you ship it to Toronto, Canada? If so, how much will it all be together?

    Thanks!
