I don't believe it takes SDHC cards.

    Re: SD Card Slot

You can find a 4Gb SD card online - not SDHC. Around $9.99 US as of last month when I got mine off Amazon. It will work just fine. Just put your tunes in folders.

Gave up on a fix to get early 09 using sdhc. I tried about 4 diff sizes and speeds to no avai of sdhc.
    YMMV.

biggest SD card supported is 4GB SD (non "SDHC")

    most 4GB cards are SDHC

4GB "plain" SD cards are "rare"

Not in the B8. Only RNS-E (not available in B8) has the slots behind the screen.

If you don't have Nav, the slot in the actual head unit, near the lower left corner.

If you have MMI 2G, you don't have SD slot.

If you have MMI 3G, it's behind the flip down door below the disc slot.

As for max size, RNS-E is SD only. Older non-nav cars are also SD only. Newer non-nav cars & MMI 3G can read SDHC up to 32 GB.

    Re: SD Card Slot

For Symphony/Concert radio B8's, its on left side just below dash nipple.
Prior to late 09 production, hardware reads SD only, not SDHC.

Hence the need for a 4GB SD Transcend card (or other manufacturer)...

Anyone else here use a SDHC or SDXC card with success in a 2010 (basic MMI/non navigation)? I'm having a hard time finding a SD only card on Amazon.
I'm not real happy with the consistency of my bluetooth device with my iPhone. Sometimes it doesnt display song info correctly, takes awhile to connect, and sometimes cant answer calls thru the cars speakers. Seems like an easy option is to simply put my music on a SD card so its always easily available without my phone being involved and then use the regular connection for phone calls.
Is it as easy as copy/paste the iTunes folders I want to the SD card?

You can use SDXC but you must format them into FAT32 format.

I run dual 64GB cards with roughly 100GB's of music. I've been tempted to try a single 128gb card so my music is all on one directory, but the MMI already takes a while to read and load the 64's.
I feel like it it might be annoyingly long trying to read it all off of a single 128 card. One of these days I'll give it a try.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm a B8.5 with MMI 3G+

    Thanks for the info!
I currently only have 6 GB of music (Social D, Rancid, Bad Religion, etc) on my iPhone. ha ha!
Is it as easy as copy/paste the iTunes artist folders I want from my PC to the SD card?

I remember reading that the MMI system can only ready X amount of files or folders per directory (255 if I recall correctly?). However, I think you could break those files out into multiple sub-directories.
I have no idea if that's true or not - I suppose I'll find out when I try a 128gb card. I did originally base my structure off of that premise though.

I structured my cards as such:

Each album gets it's own folder with the album files inside. I labeled the folders "Artist - Album Name" to keep them in alphabetical order when scrolling in the MMI.
The benefit of this way is that everything you want to find is alphabetized and accessible from the primary directory. I found that the more sub-directories you have, the slower the MMI becomes to navigate, particularly the back button.

The downside to this is that all of your albums are in the primary top directory, which slows the loading time and gives you a monster list to scroll through when you're searching for something to listen to. For example, let's say you had all the albums of an artist whose produced 15 albums over his or her career. You'll need to scroll past 15 albums before you get to the next artist.

I'm going to try restructuring my cards again soon.
    Artist > Albums > Songs
This seems more logical but when I first did this, I remember there being a specific reason why I didn't do this the first time around. I think it had something to do with how the MMI displays the folders and files. I think I remember that it might treat all sub-directory trees as one entire sub-directory - and if your subfolders are only album titles, you lose visibility to the artist name when searching.

I can't recall for certain though. Maybe I'll make this my weekend project.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 128GB card (thanks Prime Day) and can confirm that it works just fine in the MMI 3G+
As expected, it does take a bit longer to load the card from a cold start (106GB of total media), but once it does you're off and running like normal.

I made sure to use a UHS-3 rated card with fast read times.
For reference: I used a 128GB Samsung Evo Select which is basically a rebranded Evo Pro sold as an Amazon exclusive line.

When I tested this card in CrystalDisk, it came back averaging 84MB/s read time over five test sequences. Pretty decent value.

I may have spoken a little too soon.

The 128GB works, but not without an annoying quirk. It's so big that upon start-up, the MMI doesn't accept it as a playable medium right away. After a few seconds it begins to load like normal.
The problem, is that initial hiccup means the MMI re-loads your entire card like it's a brand new SD card every time.

So if you have, say, 40,000 songs on your card it's going to start from Folder 1, Song 1 every single time. It wont pick up where you left off.
