Opinions on a 90 Coupe Quattro?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking at picking one of these cars up and would like your opinion on the car overall. How is the handling/power? Good reliability? Fun to drive?

What wheel combos will work on these cars and are parts easily available? There is something about the styling that I love on these cars and I think it would be a great DD!

Re: Opinions on a 90 Coupe Quattro?

    From my limited Experience

Parts Availability: depends on what your used to, for example: Parts for my B5 are much easier to find and even cheaper for many parts. Parts aren't impossible to find but your not going to walk into Autozone and get what you need either. This could be a negative for a DD. If you break something the car may be down for a day or two minimum while parts come in or you order them online.

Reliable: It's nearly a 20 year old car, your gonna have a lot of checking/freshening up if you want to not have to worry about anything. Change fluids, check bearings, seals, bulbs, other misc. issues that arise with "old" cars.

I wouldn't be afraid to use one as a DD, most of my cars have been at minimum 20 years old, if not older. You just need to either find one that has been taken care of, or give yourself time to get it up to par. They aren't "common" cars though, I have been trying to find one for over a year and finally ended up with my project coupe. However I wouldn't have it any other way!

Re: Opinions on a 90 Coupe Quattro?

I have been DDing them for ~5 years.

Parts, online or available from independent shops (sometimes with a quick turn around). The dealer will rape you and some parts are just expensive everywhere.

Power, stock is pretty low not a drag racer the engine can be built up A LOT.

Handling, the flaw of all Audis the whole engine is in front of the front axle. Coilovers help but it is not bad stock either.

Reliability, if you take care if it and keep up on common wear items you'll not be too bad. I have driven from coast to coast and never been left stranded.

    Stock Power = mouse coughing
Built engine + turbo = hurricane force
Fun factor = on a snowy day, 10+/10
Reliability = my CQ (7A) has over 250,000 km on it and is dependable. Do your maintainence diligently and the car will reward you for years to come.

Motorgeek will be your best reference... it's 034 Motorsport's forum and they recently built and turbo'd a 7A to over 800 hp for a Castrol challenge.

Check out 80tq.com for build ideas

    Check out 20v.org for maintainence

Browse 034motorsport.com for various parts and kits, they have an OEM catalouge with hundreds of items to replace common wear and tear parts. Top notch prices and service from these guys.

I want to unload my AAN Turbo CQ. I will finish it mechanically in a few weeks, but if anyone wants to handle the body work (repaint, install RS2 rep bumper i bought) I will sell it cheaper.

PM me if you want details.
