It'll last as long as you maintain it. I know of 2.7 w/ over 200k going fine. A couple have RS6 unit on 'em & no problem.

Re: How long can the audi last

There's a few day old thread in the b5 section on this very topic.

As I said in there, I know someone with around 240,000 miles on their 1.8t that, from the last I've heard, is still running strong.

I know there are more people in here with over that amount if you search for mileage threads.

Re: How long can the audi last

I have over 143k miles on my 2004 A4. Oil change every 5k miles. Timing belt (w/ water pump and tensioner) replaced every 60k miles. The only thing I've had to have repaired was a new radiator (cracked), valve cover gasket, and the front cam seal. Everything is still solid mechanically and electrically.

I don't see any reason why it can't last to 250k or 300k miles.

Like everyone has said, if it's maintained well and doesnt have a million problems from rust or heat it should last well over 200k miles.

Mine has 93,000 and the motor is healthy. I'll probably keep it for another 100k and someday she will die on me. Then I'll part her out and she will live on.

Re: How long can the audi last

I now have 130 thousand on my b5, I ran a gt28rs kit for about 15 thousand miles. Car still runs amazing, only think I've ever had to replace is.........

    control arms
    front drivers side axel(yesterday)
    coolant temp sensor
    maf
    wheel bearing
SOON - CAM CHAIN TENSIONER, CLUTCH

STILL ON STUCK CLUTCH AND TURBO

Motor compression test still comes out amazing. Better than I would even expect. Car still looks sexy, and runs amazing, I've always been chipped since I've owned it, if not ran a BT. I DRIVE MY CAR VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HARD. I DON'T FEEL I'LL HAVE ANY ISSUES ANY TIME SOON BY DRIVING IT HARD THOUGH, DOESN'T MEAN I BEAT IT, STILL RESPECT HER AND LOVE HER :)

Re: How long can the audi last

    just some tips.

average life of an engine if done oil change regularly is around 250k to 310k.
average life of an valve gasket cover is around 5-6 years.
life of an tranny vary a lot from your driving style and condtion of the fluid.
    regular B6 O2 sensors' life is 150k.

easy smooth driving with care on maintenance should pass 200k milage no problem. of course you may have to replace some parts that failed inbetween such as failed O2 sensors, windows regulators, PS rack/pump, bearings, tie rod, etc.

I have a 2002 with 112,000mi on it as of this week. I drive it hard everyday in Chicago traffic and it only has little problems here and there. my goal is to keep the car at least another 3 years so it should have over 250,000 at that point. Stock.

Re: How long can the audi last

Some of you people make me laugh. Do you really think your car is going to start falling apart just because you hit the 100k mile mark? Modern engines will run for practically forever. Hell, I went big turbo on my old Eclipse at 110k. And when I sold it with 140k after 30k of 22+ psi and driving it like it was stolen, it still ran like a top and had perfect compression and leak down across all cylinders. Same thing with my Volvo 850R, it had around 180k on it when I sold it and it ran super strong, even after countless miles of being modded and running 18 psi.

Take care of your car and it will take care of you.

same here, i just rolled over 66k on friday and it seems to be doing alright. I did have to replace the head/headgasket and a few other things due to it over heating at the end of last year(completely my fault) but it runs like a champ... just needs mo powa.

although i do see my self getting rid of the car after another 60, and not because it'll be over the 100k mark(it's not a ford, it should be fine) but i just like to switch things up. driving the same car for a long time is boring.(unless it's like an enzo or something)

The endurance of the physical world is limited by the second law of thermodynamics, which state that systems (such as a universe or your Audi) tends to move from a state or order (think of your Audi right after you've washed/waxed/detailed your machine) towards an increasing state of disorder (think of corrosion, fluid/oil breakdown, etc.). Eventually, the universe will grow cold, the stars will darken and all energy will dissipate; even your Audi will be no more...

However, the German car marques (Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche) don't engineer their machines with a specific life-span embedded in the cars. As long as your Audi is properly maintained (fluids flushed/replaced on a regular basis, worn parts replaced, etc.), you should reasonably expect your machine to continue to deliver driving enjoyment well into six-figure mileage on the odometer.

I have a 2002 3.0 with 56,000 miles. even though i am very hard on it and my tach needle sees the 5-7k rpm range very often, it has never skipped a beat or made any unusual noises. i plan on keeping it forever as it is my first car. i think i could get it to last to over 300k being that it is a n/a motor and i change the oil every 2500-3000 miles and do all of the maintenance more often than it needs to be done.

exactly. there are wear and tear maintenence items that need to be replaced obviously, but if you keep up on that and take care of the car as a whole, it'll have no problem hitting 1,000,000 miles. more cars would be able to hit this mark, but people either sell, wreck, abandon, or neglect their cars well before the 200k mark.

think of a semi truck engine. they run around at ~18:1 compression and 40+psi of boost and they don't usually need a rebuild til 500,000 miles iirc. main reason is imaculate maintenence

EDIT- necrobump that i even posted in

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance! Theoretically, you can replace verything in the car and it should be brand new. Question is, how much/long are you willing to put up with it before enough is enough. I'm at 85k, just did tb and other stuff and she's as good as new. Not to say I haven't done other things but I love her (Anne) and she loves me. 90% maintenance 10% luck (luck that Heinz Schuttleheimer put her together right).

theres a thread like this over in the b5 forum, there are BT and BAT cars with 200+ on them, some one has over 300, cant remember if its 1.8t or a 2.8 though. cars will last as long as they are looked after for, there is a camaro around with about 2mil on it that some lady got new in the 70s, not even a rebuild till over 1mil, theres a Volvo somewhere with some equally ridicules number of miles on it.
Without doing anything other than basic stuff then you should get to 200 really if you tread it right.

I turned 144k and just installed tb/wp. Once I find out why I don't have heat, I will keep her for many years to come...mostly the minor maintenance items. Helluva lot cheaper thjan payments!

"i just did my third timing belt complete and first water pump, and i just hit 172,000 mi on my 03, next thing for me is a power steering pump and then i should be set to well over 250k"

    SEA4,
So you changed timing belt 3 times but never your water pump untill now...so water pump changed for the first time at 172k? You gave me hope man, because at 94k i did my timing belt without the water pump and im scared that its going to seize...if yours was fine this is great news :) I love you man!

On topic: I am from a small eastern european country and i can tell you that the majority of ppl there drive cars that come in from Germany at around 180k miles and run them for another 150k miles more...do the math! Audis can go long, just dont abuse it and take care of it
