Anyone know if warranty will replace headlight condensation?

I just bought my B7 in Oct and with the recent rain, I noticed the left headlight is fogged up. Do you know if the warranty will cover the headlight? It really annoys me that its like that.

I'm currently having the same issue with a rear lamp.......

Although I'm in the UK - my VAG Electronic Parts Catalogue (which Audi Dealers use here) mentions that fogging up of lamps isn't covered

May be worth asking the question though.

umm fogging, will not be covered, because it's not something thats damaged. did you replace a bulb? clear corner your light?

check to see if everything is tight.

The lights are vented, not sealed, a little condensation is normal as long as it goes away.

Re: Anyone know if warranty will replace headlight condensation?

There was some information regarding this on the vortex, but i cannot seem to find that thread now. The driver's side headlight was fogged up before I purchased my b7 so I read up about the problem on vwvortex. It seems that B6's were prone to this problem, and there was a tech bulletin or service bulletin regarding it (could not find it this morning). The headlights are not airtight, if they were then it would be very easy to crack the lense if they were not allowed to "breathe" with changing temperature/humidity/barometric conditions. But there are some things the dealer can and will do before they warranty the headlight. The day I purchased my car, the lense was fogged over but after driving for a few minutes with the drl's on, the light cleared up and has only fogged up once since then after washing the car with some warm water on a cold day.

Re: Anyone know if warranty will replace headlight condensation?

I had a similar issue when I blacked out my headlights, one sealed up fine but the other had some condensation (obviously my fault so it wouldn't be covered under warranty). Anyways, I noticed it before putting the car back together, so I just baked the headlight again to open it up, put some clear silicon window sealant around the edges and it back together. I haven't had a problem since, so if your dealer doesn't cover it this is a viable option.

My question is; if the headlights aren't air tight to begin with, why would not having a proper seal even matter? If they're already letting some air in, why would a messed up seal letting a little more air in cause condensation? To the best of my knowledge and from looking at them when I had them completely apart, the headlights looked pretty air tight. Even where the bulbs lock in, it doesn't look like air would get through there, especially if you're not clear cornered because the amber lense is definitely air tight.

I agree with you here, especially since the access caps on the back of the housing even have seals around them. I am sure it is not airtight in the sense that a submarine or something similar is however I imagine it is fairly airtight. Just to verify I just pulled one of my halogen housings out of the closet and the only "vent" I could see would be through a plug and even then that is fairly sealed when the male end is in.

As for the OPs issue, I would definitely take it to the dealer. I disagree with anyone who says this is not their issue (if you haven't tinkered with it).

If you are gonna fix it yourself, might as well clear corner your headlights at the same time. I am so happy i clear cornered my headlights, i just wish i blacked them out too.

Take it to the dealer, it should be covered under warranty.
