What the consensus on the quality of VMR wheels?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Searched a bit and for the most part those that own them seem to like them and indicate they're durable enough. I am of the "you get what you pay for" school of thought and can't help but think they're THAT cheap for a reason.

That being said, they make some handsome wheels and the prices right now are very tempting. Any VMR owners care to offer your opinions?

I think the older ones that were made around 3ish years ago were not as high quality. now, the wheels have been known to be much better

I dont own VMR wheels but would love to. Its not that they're THAT cheap but rather the others are way overpriced.

Obviously not as high quality as a forged wheel, but for the price, they can't be beat. I believe that they'll well exceed your expectations.

I've beat on my 18" RS4 reps for almost two years and they've held up just fine, no bends at all. They're just not that light, but I think a great deal for what you get and you can easily find other aftermarket wheels of comparable size that are heavier.

Great quality... they are a good manufacturer

Just dont hit any craters, but that goes for pretty much any wheel.

just made the purchase myself..while I still think as you do, I also feel they are nice for the money. Great shape, average finish and if you bend one you replace it. While all wheels will bend these are one of the few I will be happy to purchase 2 of without breaking the bank. just my opinion.

Came nicely packed. Resale seems bad though (can't get rid of them). I guess that is fitting for Audi / Audi related items.

VMR wheel weight (19") is pretty much near stock 18" wheel weight. Its just up to the type of tire you purchase. I finally got mine on last weekend wrapped with some Toyo Proxes T1Rs and they are just turning heads everywhere i go. I luv how the hyper silver brings out the lines of the wheel (710 wheel) and flows nicely with the rest of the aluminum accents on my S4. For the price, you can't go wrong. Quality is awsome!

Funny that you mention the height of the 19s. The VMR VB3s in 19" look a bit small. I am considering 18s and wondering if they'll look TOO small. My car is dropped pretty low so wheel gap is not a problem. I am thinking it will look ok.

Well, I've only had mine on for a month or so, but I'm pleased so far. I hit a pretty big lip in the road where construction workers had removed a strip of asphalt to lay some wiring and suffered no damage. I also bought them through ebay when there was a paypal cash back program, so they were only $800 for a set. I figure even if they only last a year or two before they start aging, I got such a great deal that I wouldn't mind getting a new set of rims by them anyways.

Re: What the consensus on the quality of VMR wheels?

I've had VMR 19"rs4 reps since Jan 07. I've logged about 16k miles on them and they still clean up and look like new. I think they are a great value for the money. I've hit plenty of potholes and rough roads and they've held up stellar. My car is slammed and a few times I've hit some potholes pretty damn hard and thought I bent a rim. They've never taken damage. I just replaced the tires i bought with the rims as well.. thumbs up for VMR.

Obviously the downfall is they are rather heavy. Purely for that reason when I move on I'll be doing something forged..

do you guys use tpms sensors with your vmr's? i'm not looking forward to spending $x hundreds of dollars on new sensors since I will be using my stock wheels as my winter set-up (not going to dismount the snow tires, remove oem sensors and then install sensors on summer set-up only to do the same thing over when winter comes again).

^ looks sweet. I was curious to see some 18s since most people get 19s. Any need for spacers with those? Also, are you using TPMS sensors?

No spacers, they're 18x8.5 ET38 and clear my Brembo 355 with no problem. I don't have TPMS sensors. I like the 18s since they look more sporty, but I've got some Volk 19x8.5s I'm going to put on for the summer, unless I sell them first.

Re: What the consensus on the quality of VMR wheels?

I don't think there is much issue regarding the strength of the materials used but rather how well the paint holds up.

I had VMR CLS Reps on my M3 which were hyperblack, I curbed one and the paint basically exploded off the rim and them a rock chipped another rim and the same thing happened.

A rock hit one of the spines, paint is a little brittle.

Re: What the consensus on the quality of VMR wheels?

Bummer on the paint issues you're seeing. When were those rims made?

On the other hand, if I were to jack up my rims over the next year or two, I would look at it this way: The money I'm losing on basically giving these away is still less than the depreciation many experience after buying $500/piece rims.

    sure you would.

polls show up with the poll at the top of the page + people make posts below. It's basically this forum with a poll added.

hey MODS...can you add a poll to an existing thread?

    i.e. this thread...

POLL: What is your opinion on VMR wheels quality (owners only)

hahaha...well no, at first I thought maybe you didn't know how polls work. Then I re-read my post and realized it could be taken as a slam (and you did) so I omitted it. I did it instantly though...how'd you even see it?

DPE/HRE cracks as well, and i don't know how HRE wheels are consructed.

it's all about how you drive and where you drive. try to avoid all pot holes but don't wreck anyone. try to drive slow on crappy pavements.
people tell me OZ bends and cracks all the time, I owned them for 1 year never had a problem.
you can buy a set of $4000 wheels but they are still not bullet proof.

it's all about how you drive and where you drive. try to avoid all pot holes but don't wreck anyone. try to drive slow on crappy pavements.
people tell me OZ bends and cracks all the time, I owned them for 1 year never had a problem.
you can buy a set of $4000 wheels but they are still not bullet proof.
Exactly. I've lost count of how many forged wheels I've checked out in the AZ/AW classifieds that have bends or cracks, or have had damage repaired. BBS, Neuspeed, Dronnell, etc. It seems the "strength" of a forged wheel may be a slightly overrated attribute.

That being said, I would still buy a set of used BBS wheels for the right price if they pop up in the next 2 months.

if you live in the northeast and are getting 19's, you should buy 2 sets cuz you are going to break, crack or bend every single rim-guaranteed

I've had mine for over 6 months and 12K miles and they have been great. I don't have any bends and they clean up like new after every wash. BTW, I am not running spacers (I have been asked this a few times), they just fit perfectly under our fenders! Oh, and I can't say enough about the Vredestein's....what a great tire!

Cool stuff with a little growl!

Re: What the consensus on the quality of VMR wheels?

My fiancee just curbed the Shit out of my Rear passenger side wheel : (
I have the V708's in 19" Gunmetal and I must say these rims are durable as hell for a low budget Rep. I live in New York and these 19"s withstand the L.I.E , Jackie Robinson... Cross Island PKWY etc and oh yeah.... the infamous Queens blvd ( aka Blvd of death) I hit some major potholes even though I drive the car like I'm on a F*cken Minefield and still no rim damage! ... so anyway the only thing these rims cant take is the curb... just a little taste of the curb and the rims are toast!!! anyway My fiancee knew i was Pissed as hell so while I was at work She wanted to swap the damaged rim with the Spare Tire/rim also a 19" V708 GM *brand new never used... she took the car to a local Tire/rim shop and watched the dude swap the tires... when he was done she walked up to the car and saw 3 scratches on the new rim he just put on!!! she flipped and the manager came out and said he will bring his rim guy tomorrow morning to see if he can repair the scratches...... WTF!!!!! now i have 2 F*ucked up rims in 1 day!!!
