Well I have come across an Audi 90 for $700. The dealer thinks the power steering pump has gone out. To get out of the car you have to roll down the window and open it. Now I don't know how much all of that would cost but I am a pretty good mechanic and I feel confident in fixing those problems. I'm going to say there are almost 200k on the engine but I'm not positive. The paint is pretty good. The only problem is the hood has some paint chips. NO rust though. I didn't get to drive it because it was out of gas. Do you guys think that is a good price? Would it be a pain in the ass to get the power steering working again? How about the door? let me know what you guys think because I would really like to have this as a second/project car.

I forgot to mention that it is a 5 cylinder. I'm not sure of the year though.

Sounds like a bowden cable is broken and the pump is fairly expensive ~$700 IIRC.

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

This was my first car ever! It was red too! God I wish I hadn’t sold it. I cannot speak to the other things that you listed, but the only thing that ever went wrong on mine (93'-187,000 miles not lying) was the Cad and the timing belt. This car is so fun to drive, incredibly reliable and completely mod-able! You would be crazy not to buy it for $700. But… I’m partial.

Let me load some pictures for you guys.

It does have a rust spot but I think I could sand it out and repaint it. These pictures make this car look rough but It looks really good in person. Lol

$700 brand new and replaced? Or is that just for the pump itself? I'm sure I could find a pump for less. And shouldn't this pump be running the green Pentosin because this pump had some blue shit in it? How about this Bowden cable? Easy fix?

What are you wanting the car for? Everyday or just for a fun project?

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

Well I want to know what the hell engine is in it. I'm 90% sure it has a 2.3 10V and I don't know how moddable that engine platform is. Either way, I would like it to be a winter beater or a potentially a high horsepower car. I'm just looking for it to be relatively reliable.

You bought a car with no idea what it is?

Engine- open the hood and post a pic.

Year - Look at the sticker on the door panel.

    Reeeewind...

    No I didn't buy it.

I had a limited amount of time to look at it.

I was not blessed with the ability of photographic memory.

I'm going to go drive it tomorrow. I'm pretty positive it is not the turbocharged version. I just wish I could figure out what year it is. I think it is pre-1990

The bowden cable is really easy to fix. All you have to do is take the doorcard off, take off the old one, and then re-route the new one. Get some clips when you get the cable because you'll break some.

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

if i remember correctly, as far as 90's go: (please correct me if im wrong)
    1993+ is 2.8 v6 12v
    1990 - 1992 is 20v in-line 5
    pre 90's is a in-line 5 but 10v (?)

there was also i 4 cylinder but i think those were only automatic

Yeah that is what I am thinking.

    It's a 10 valve.

    thats pretty rough shape.
thats the 10v. about 130 horsepower. not too fast but because its 4.11 gears its not terrible.

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

Thought it was a 20v before you put the pics in. http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...teering%20Pump

$216+$75 core for the pump. If you cannot do the install you should reconsider this (really any) old Audi. The blue is Pentosin 202 not sure what the jury says re: 202 in Audis but is was spec'd for Porsches.

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

can always swap the motor to a 10v Turbo from the early 200's or the 5Kq.

The pump also drive the brake system unless you have one of the ones with vac boost but if it is quattro should have hydro-boost.

And yea, swap out the suspension bushing with something from 034 or the like, makes it feel almost new again.

    Re: Audi 90 Quattro

IIRC the 10vs has Vac and the 20vs had hydro.
