Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i bought this car 2002 b6 a4 with s4 kit on it for $600 dollars from a guy who took this car to a shop who said they could change the timing belt. the car was in the shop for two months they kept giving him the run around they installed the timing belt wrong didnt use the timing belt tools and the broke a valve and now the engine is fubar the pics will explain. im guessing that i will rebuild this motor install some nice rods and pistons try to build a high hp na motor but just thought for now. here are some pics just to show you guys what happens when the timing belt isnt lined up right.

    cylinder head totally f*cked

    actual hole in piston

actual valve stem laying in the catalytic converter

ill build the motor myself but i have a machine shop that will magniflux the block and ill probably bore the engine a little. if i bore it i will definately be installing new pistons and h beam rods already coated.

depends on how much power you want to make, you select different brands.

Re: For all you 3.0 owners thinking of doing a timing belt DON'T DO IT !!!!

I suggest JE/Supertech/Mahle/Weisco pistons. pick a brand you like, they are all good picstons.

for rods, Scat rods are good enough, but if you want to go crazy and make a lot of power with this engine you are building, then get Pauter rods.

I forgot the name of the coating that you apply to the cylinder wall which make's the engine very strong to hold a lot of power.

nice find. many options to chooz from when thinking of the audi motor line up. depends on what you are trying to do? IMO skip the rebuild and find a complete used motor. that will cost you ball park $5000 not instld.

HaHa, Ive done 2 timing belts on the 3.0 and cam adjusters cuz they used to leak, NEVER seen anything like that. The belt is tricky on that engine, you need a plate that holds the Cams....valve covers off and everthing. Looks like they used the wrong coolant. Not like it matters. Check www.car-part.com thats where i got my 2.8 v6 for a passat i rebuilt. Got it for $800. The 3.0 will be more though. Good Luck!

ive been using car-part for years thatz the first place i looked but for that price ill just pull the motor replace the one piston rod and rings. found a head for 450 ill be in it alot less then 2600 ill be pricing new rings bearings and the one piston and rod on monday. i found that i could get a full set of custom pistons made to spec for 999.00 from wiseco im gonna see how much the engine can be bored and may go that route but not sure as of yet

welcome to the world of Audi.

I would suggest a different title to your thread though, it's very deceiving. I haven't read all the responses to this thread, but if it hasn't been said yet, you should have said, "Don't go to this shop to get your timing belt replaced. Here's why...". Or at least that would be the civil way of doing it. There's even a part of Audizine dedicated to shop reviews for this purpose.

Many of our members are very proficient at timing belt replacement and haven't had the issues that you have in this case.

Good luck with the repair. Personally, I would part it. $600 in and an "S4 clone" means you could turn some bank.
