What is needed to fit a GT25 turbo?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was wondering what else is needed to install a GT25 turbo onto an A4. Is adding a GT25 the same as getting the APR SIII kit? Just asking cuz I don't really want the FMIC or exhaust, just the turbo and manifold.

but you dont want the FMIC and exhaust...

you might want to learn a bit more about turbos and your stock turbo system before you try to go about major changes to it.

you can't use the stock intercooler for many reasons, one being its flow limited and designed for a turbo smaller then the one you want to add.

stock exhaust on anything bigger then a ko4 = retarded :)

    being flow limited?

what does that have to do with it.

    you can still use it...

keep in mind a larger turbo runs lower air temperatures vs a smaller turbo.

The stock SMIC would get heat soaked faster. I have seen people with stock exhaust and bug turbos. It works but not to the fullest potentail.

Uhm, are you handicapped in any way shape or form?

You can't run a stock SMIC on a GT25, end of story.

BTW is that your face in your sig? If it is, I will laugh hard.

hey guys, thanks for the input. I know I will need a exhaust soon. I'm just debating which one to get in the future. As for the SMIC, some of the S4 guys that I hang out with and I and I are trying to fabricate either a RS4 IC or doing a dual S4 IC set-up. This is the reasoning behind just wondering what else I would need.

    What you need:

    1. exhaust manifold
    2. gaskets
    3. oil line modification
    4. the actual turbo
    5. inlet pipe turbo to air box
    6. injectors
    7. 4bar fuel pressure regulator
    8. software/tuning
    9. exhaust
    10. intercooler (interFOOLER if you like the ryyyce ;) )
    11. MAF sensor

thats all I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure there is more.

    What MKGIY said...
I talked to APR about running the Gt28RS with the Stock SMIC and they said you can do it but you will get Major heat soak.

no need for a new mani you can run the turbo with the stock mani using a turbo bracket.

I ran a SMIC with my T28 for over 6 months. So it can be done. Also I dont get why people want a BIG turbo but dont want to upgrade other parts.

Apparantly not, AWE is running a GT28R with the Stock Mani on their Stage 3 kit, and from what Garrett said the car is making good power. While I agree a bigger manifold would be better, especially up top, the stock mani actually has good flow. Like you I would rather run a bigger manifold. They will be offering an upgraded mani after the initial release of their Stage 3. Do you know any B5 guys that ran that turbo with the stock manifold, and what results they got?

from what mike over at AWE told me they are making a kit that bolts on to the stock mani. the turbo they are using is a GT28R and apperently it's making loads of power. so why would running a turbo braket with the GT25 be a mistake? i know that a better flowing mani would generate more HP and make more power up top, but really is it going to be a mistake to run the turbo using a braket? do you know something we and the guys over at AWE don't. well, if so please share.

Is the AWE kit for the B5 or B6? Is there a big difference in the B5 and B6 manifolds? We all know that an aftermarket manifodl will be better and that is why AWE will release on shortly after.

It's for the B6, but I believe it's the same setup as the Garrett kit for the B5, see link below, no big difference really, the manifolds are exactly the same. Some of the hardware will be different, intake snorkel, etc. I believe they are using the stock MAF as well, not sure yet. Totally agree with you that a bigger manifold would be the way to go. But they seem to be making good power with this setup 290CHP is what I hear.

More power to AWE if they can pull off those numbers and that kit is real cheap on that site.

It is fine having a T-28 with no exhaust or FMIC. THere is a local guy here in mn that has it. He only put 222hp down to the wheels but I find that impressive for stock exhaust and IC
