So mine died when I was at 60% throttle up hill (according to the codes). Anything that makes them work hard for a long time would precipitate it.

I was actually under warranty too, but they’d only replace 1 for free, so I just did all 4 myself instead. Was a tough decision though.

Oh another tact could be to get emissions tested. If it fails emissions likely the warranty is legally forced to fix that for you. That’s the whole reason the injector warranty was extended, actually.

Just reading this thread to get a general reliability idea. Just purchased a 2014 2.0t with 120k as a winter beater for 9500 CAD Dealer serviced its entire life. Coming from B7. Outside of carbon clean do i have much to worry about ?
When the guy at the dealership started it i didnt think it even started it was so quiet

I don’t know much about that year but I think a lot of the issues were figured out/fixed by then.

I was just reading a recent Consumer Reports and the 2009-2011 A4 was listed as a "used car to avoid," with the lowest reliability score possible. Shockingly, engine reliability also received the lowest score. Somehow, they believe that the new A4 will have excellent reliability, however.

usually takes them about 5 years to revise all the parts and scam all the previous owners out of their money before they get a good reliable model going with the new revisions. New A4's dont have the same issues the cars had when the TFSI was first released because they finally figured out the kinks. Naturally they will probably come out with a new engine design in a year or two that will be plagued with problems immediately.

I saw it in the April 2018 auto issue, but I am guessing it may also be available online if you have a subscription.

Yeah, the 2012 was rated below average, but better than 2009-2011, and 2013 on is either average or good.

I’m just going to keep telling myself ‘you’re learning so much, it’s a great learning opportunity’ until it either (1) runs great or (2) I give up and panic-sell the car. ;-)

My B7 was 10x more reliable than the B8.I put 125,000km on that car and besides the basic wear and tear and cam follower it was reliable.Only issues was the leather seats lumbar showed cracking even with proper conditioner and cleaning.

The interior of my B8 has held up amazingly well and still looks almost new. Actually, the entire car has been very reliable outside of the engine.

Agreed. My interior looks awesome. And so does the rest of the car. Better interior quality/design than the B5 and B7 I owned.

If its wasn't for the timing tensioner, piston rings and the wastegate turbo issues the B8 is a really nice generation for Audi cars.Too bad they ignored those issues until lawsuits force them to admit it was a design issue.

And the fuel injectors. If it wasnt for the fact that the B8 drivetrain was a total disaster and that the man purpose of a car is to you-know “run” they yeah the B8 was fantastic. It photographs well in craigslists ads.

its funny but everything suffers by comparison ... I came from a B7 ( still have it ) B7 owners tend to complain how totally unreliable it is compared to the now iconic 1.8T it replaced. Cam followers, chain tensioners, timing belt, oil usage, thermostat, coolant flange, vacuum pump, oil filter housing , turbos, the dreaded pinch bolt, intake flaps, oil pump/balance shafts, clogged oil pickup.
I had all that fail on my B7 and it is a pretty solid car now ( knock on wood )
I'm sure my B8.5 will be totally awesome as they have fixed everything ( he says to himself )

Ya, it's a cycle for sure. I owned B5, B7 and B8, and I do think the B5 was the most reliable. The B7 was definitely worse than the B5, in terms of drivetrain reliability, and the B8 is definitely worse than the B7 in terms of drivetrain reliability, except the automatic transmission is MUCH better.

    So for engine:
    B5 > B7 > B8

    Transmission:
    B8 > B7 > B5

    Interior and Quality of Finishes:
    B8 > B5 > B7

So the B8 isn't worst at everything... it's just worst, primarily, at engine stuff (injectors, timing, turbo, carbon buildup, etc.). And on all the rest, it's squarely the best of the 3. But as has been said, the engine is, you know, pretty important. ;-)
