who's more popular - tom brady or lebron James? (in the US)

Lebron James may be on commercials more but that means nothing. It doesnt say hey I am Lebron James, it is just "some big black guy" on the tv unless you knew who he was from the start. So him being on commercials doinig a fake shot from half court for a gatorade commercial or something doesnt make him popular when there isnt a name associated with the guy in the commercial.

Thanks. We are talking about popularity, not earnings. Nike pays absurd amounts for endorsements.

To the person who said that LeBron is the messiah. Well, Tom Brady is God here in New England. New England population > Cleveland.

We are talking popularity. Brady has his hands in all sorts of media outlets including the gossip columns and the fashion and sports magazines. He reaches out to a larger audience. That makes him more popular. LeBron has a few Nike and Gatorade commercials, but so doesn't LT and Eli, but that doesn't make them more popular. Tom Brady is "across the board" popular, LeBron is only popular among basketball enthusiasts and urban demographics. How are you going to even compare the two?

Also, Tom Brady has 3.5 rings, how many does LeBron have? That alone puts him above LeBron's popularity status. Tom Brady will be revered as one of the greatest players to play the sport of football. If LeBron fails to win a championship, he will only be revered as a player with great skills. Brady has left his imprint on the sports and pop world...LeBron has yet to do either.

I don't see how endorsements and money have no value in popularity, yet you think having 3.5 rings makes him more popular.

And you revert to the fact that Brady is endorse by certain brands. It seems to me that these branches reach a certain demographic, a very specific, and somewhat posh. Whereas LeBron reaches are more frugal and affordable demographic, which is much larger than any endorsement (popularity wise) than Brady has.

I love Brady, I am a Boston guy, I sweat the Pats. But lets be honest, LeBron would win the popular vote.

you would have a better chance comparing the popularity of Peyton Manning to Lebron James than Tom Brady to LBJ...not saying Manning is better or anything of the sort, but he is WAY more popular than Brady

My point is not that brand, but the demographic and marketing of the two players. Brady reaches a wider audience than LeBron. If you asked suburbia who LeBron is they would have no idea, but if you asked them who Tom Brady is than they would know because not only is he the greatest qb ever, he is in the tabloids and a high fashion model. Tom Brady has also been on SNL, LeBron hasn't. Tom Brady can be found on any magazine after flipping through a few pages, Lebron can't. Why do you think that these products and brands reach out to Brady? Because he has a general appeal about him. LeBron has his own sector, and that's it.

Let's just break it down to numbers. NFL is the powerhouse in professional sports, they have statistically more fans. So every NFL fan knows who Tom Brady is. We can say the same about LeBron. Alright so now, let's take this completely out of the realm of sport. If you were going to just ask your average Joe, who do you think he would know? You probably think that LeBron is more popular than Brady, but my point is this nation thinks Brady is more popular.

Also, my point of the white and black demographic. White people outnumber black people by 4 to 1. So, if you were to ask the general population who they would more recognize, I'm certain your resounding answer would be Tom Brady.
