    225 vs 235 on an 8" wheel?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought the set of wheels used with 235s on them, i like the look of the size but when the car gets lowered will i rub? The exact sizes im looking at are 235/40/18 and 225/40/19. Anyone have pics of a 225 on 8" wide wheels?

search. you will most likely have to roll the fenders with a 235 if you are lowered. 225 usually is the right size.

Re: 225 vs 235 on an 8" wheel?

225/35-19 is the correct size. We have more rubbing problems with height than with width. I've run 235 and 245mm widths at various heights without rubbing.

Re: 225 vs 235 on an 8" wheel?

I ran 235/40/18 on my 18in Rs6s for about a year before buying 225s because they were a lot cheaper than 235s. I'm lowered on Neuspeed sport with bilstein grooved shocks. No rubbing what so ever.

Im thinking of going with the 225's because of the 100 dollar savings over the 235's plus the peace of mind knowing i wont have to get new tires or rolled fenders when it gets dropped.

235's here. I would rub when going over bumps but it was only the plastic liner. I cut those out and got the fenders rolled just in case and no problems.

Re: 225 vs 235 on an 8" wheel?

It is the offset that forces the smaller tires, not the rim width.

Half of the equation is the tire size but the other half is where you place that tire. You could run a 155mm wide tire and put it into the control arm or fender with the wrong offset. You can also run a 245 or 255mm tire with the proper offset and fenders rolled and never rub on anything but the ground. I've done the measurements and could get a 265mm tire in there if one was available that was short enough to avoid the rear upright.

I'm running 235/40/18's on a set of Enkei SC05's with a 35 offset on the H&R and Bilstein setup. The tires are definitely a plus size but i wanted to run as much tread as possible. Before I rolled my fenders, the side of the tire was absolutely getting shreaded but once I rolled and pulled my fenders I've had no problems since.

Your new tires are a half inch taller than stock which is where the problem lies. Go to a 235/35-18 (shorter) or 245/35-18 (stock height) and there will be less chance of rubbing.

This is how it works folks. The fender lip angles up over the tire. The inner control arm does the same thing in the rear. This is why taller is bad. If you go tall then the offset becomes more critical than ever.

I purposely went with a 40 sidewall because of the condition of the roads in the location I live. I wanted more sidewall for a slightly more comfortable ride, and to absorb shock to my wheels in the case of potholes and less then desirable road conidtions. It was a thought out decision not just a mistake. For 5 minutes of work on the fender the problem was resolved.

Ya, but you also have an 8.5" wheel with a 38 offset.. I have this setup too but the right offset here is key. I also noticed that Michelin tires are more squared off then the BF goodrich I am driving on right now... something else to think about.
