Left drivers door speaker cutting in and out

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i thought my car had a blown speaker due to some crackling sporadically. I faded the stereo to drivers door, and it will cut in and out. I think that there is a wire loose somewhere in the door, or by the door hinge.

Anyone else dealt with similar issue?

On a side note, how the hell do i get my door panel off?

Yeah. I have that prob, noticed it ounce, and have had a fault code set also. This is a warrantee item. You should have the dealer fix it.

There are two screws under the oval cover behind the door hand grip. Next remove the black trim strip, there are five or six screws under it. Pop the clips around the panal sides and lower edge by pulling the panal edge firmly. Lift the panal to unseat the upper side from the window channel. Disconnect the switch wiring.
    Reverse to install.

    I have the same problem.
Hitting the door panel near the speaker sometimes helps.

It's a well documented issue on AW & AZ. Something to do with grease or a wire harness (depends on who you ask). Many have had it repaired and some more then once (speakers replaced,..etc). Mine has been doing it since about 2 months after I took delivery. Never had it repaired, but I will soon. I can touch the wire jacket in the doorjamb making it cut in/out.

Friend's a tech at the dealership here. Told me they over did it with the dielectric grease around the connectors. He serviced several with all the same issues and all on the same door. For me, it was a slight problem for a while, until it got worst so I took it in. Just fine now.

I have the same issue and have had it back to the dealer a couple of times. They said there was a recall to add felt insulation, but I haven't heard of the grease?

I can get the speaker to work by smacking the door by the speaker.

Wow, I thought this had died and I had given up hope. I will add that to the list for the 5k service.

    Thanks!

Re: Left drivers door speaker cutting in and out

I HATE to bring up such an old post but after searching a number of times and ways - this was the only post that came up. I just purchased an a4 this past weekend (bought it in Jacksonville FL and drove it back to Kentucky - it was great!) and the speaker is cutting in and out on the drivers door. Is anyone aware if this was die-electric grease, if I just need to start tracing wires, etc?

    Any help is appreciated!

Re: Left drivers door speaker cutting in and out

My driver's side speaker does the same thing - going in and out. The next time I go home I'll just take the door off and see what the deal is because it is starting to annoy the hell out of me.

No doubt - a "mod" for the cars. Sheesh!

I'll do the same - take the door off one night and see what I can find. I had a similar problem in my wifes Cherokee and it was a wire inside the loom that runs in the door jamb that had been rubbed bare. Hopefully it's this simple for the A4.

Re: Left drivers door speaker cutting in and out

For me it's the rear driver's side door tweeter. I took off the panel and removed the speaker. I cleaned off the connections and such with alcohol reseated the connections where I could. IT helped but didn't make it go away. It's easily heard on AM stations.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

Re: Left drivers door speaker cutting in and out

If the speaker is cutting out, you don't need to remove the door panel. Pop off the rubber boot in the door jamb on the car side (not the door side), and there's a wiring harness underneath. Disconnect this harness and clean it with some electrical cleaner spray, and reconnect it. That should solve your speaker cutting out.
