I open the hood and see a big catalytic converter made in S. Africa on left (facing the engine)going down toward exhaust. Is this the only one on 2.0t?

To "trick" the secondary o2 sensor and fix the check engine light you can either:
a) Chip your car, and get the "test pipe" file
b) Buy a "o2 sensor defouler". I'm not sure where to get them, or if they even work perfect though.

I really don't think you can... If you are chipped, the "tp file" is free from that software dealer.

I would chip first anyway, it's sooo much better!

Just do the 93 octane program or something for $600, then say you have a test pipe (or will in the near future). I think you can even run the stage 2 software (free upgrade, more aggressive file for more power) with just a test pipe.

i plan on it, basically I was waiting until I got used to the power of the a4 (coming from all suv's) and I finally have, its slow! So now I need that software asap

and if you're thinking about exhaust, just wait until you run just the test pipe. For me, just the test pipe is plenty loud when I drive at WOT, I don't want my exhaust any louder. It's a surprising difference in sound!

But even chipped --> chipped/tp you can feel a difference in power. Definitely worth it

APR 93/100 stage 2, Ecode test pipe, k&n cone filter (building a heat shield), and that's it for performance right now.

no it wont, you would have to take the testpipe off, get it approved then put it back on!

Or move to a state like me where we have no emissions testing.

No test pipe will pass, you'll either have to purchase a high-flow cat (very expensive) or else swap back to stock for emissions.

What is cat filled with? I'm thinking about gutting the inside, then reinstalling so it looks like its there when I have inspection or go for service.

If you gut it, don't throw the internals out... They are worth $100+

ROFL, if you're gonna trade it in, do it quickly. The dollar is projected to make a rebound; so you better do it fast before the commodity futures value of precious metals begins its (major) correction.

I'm really not sure, I would call local scrap yards or recycling places or something.

Every junkyard usually cuts off every cat to sell it, and there are stories on the news about people going around cutting off people's cats to sell them. Mine is just sitting in my garage floor, hopefully nobody breaks in and steals it
