Re: Anyone ever think of using Airplane Wax?

    ehh...

there is a reason why, the wax people use on a plane is different, in a plane everything is function before form.

Aviation wax ergo is geared to being the thinnest film and as friction free as possible. (keep in mind any kind of performance aircraft and you can fill a huge difference between having 4-5 coats of paint+clear and 10.)

longevity and protection are always second. Unless you go to a wax geared for like a bumble bee cesna (High wing) Then its probably just as similar to car wax, although this part im not sure.

Additives are added and base is changed depending on what its geared to be used on, although not meant for automotive applications, I have seen a lot of good stuff with marine Teflon Wax, keeps down water spots and keeps up longer, but not as shiny as good old meguires.

P.S. The hanger boys wax the famileys L-29 Delfin with a friction free wax, i dont know what it is but we only get about 12 hours on her before it needs to be done again... (a month) btw for those who fly, this thing is the greatest private jet ever. cant beat 400mph w/600 mile range (wing tanks) and best part.... If something goes horribly wrong you have an ejection seat.... IMO much safer than a slow and old 150.

undoubtedly the best product for your car. Do a search on youtube for zymol - there is a guy in england that does all the proper step to clean and stuff. Pretty intense.

I used Collinite. My opinion, the longest lasting wax, great for all year round, especially Winter.

I'd use it if I had an airplane!

You might want to check out the stuff from Adams, Lusso or Swisswax first!

I dont know any reason why someone would use an aviation wax on a car unless its some kind of formula or scca car and even then i think its pointless.

Meguirs, you cant go wrong. Mothers is a close secound. IMO

Its not a jet like a gulf stream its a 2 seater jet trainer from europe. * lots of kool things from the iron curtain has found itself in the usa. for cheap too* you can find them hardly flying for about 30k, one in okay-good condition is about 40-50k which is what ours is. Ours is split among between my brothers and sisters that fly so its not expencive at all. anual expences maybe 4-5k w/hanger fees +inspections.

Re: Anyone ever think of using Airplane Wax?

your dad has a lambo revention one of the handful ever made, and you experimented with wax on it. Then have a guy in a new multi million dollar jet do a fly by... ....

In any case my original point is that your not going to get any kind of wear and tear from it, it will burn off in about 2-3 weeks, or sooner. Further more, its not for shine, its for function = less friction in aircraft.

You really think all the professional detailers use only some second rate stuff??? or that not one of them ever thought to go to aviation wax??? ( or if they have then the joke is on my because I have never ever heard of this)

I'm done with my soap box

However, I dug up a pic of our old Aero Jet right when we got it and did some new paneling/painting. Pic is about 4-5years old and I just scanned it in...

Re: Anyone ever think of using Airplane Wax?

think of wax that meets clear coat. I used to be manage a boat supply store a lifetime ago. Starbrite makes a kool teflon wax that reduces waterspots and scuffs on boats... dramatically! A lot of RV people use it too. A few poeple one there cars.

Also makes it easier to wash/clean the boat/rv. Like I said a few people put it on there cars but there was never a big following by any of my customers to put it on there cars. If a prof. detailer popped and and shed some light on this I think that would be the best, I wouldnt be surprised if it helped protect the clear coat, also wouldnt be surprised if it damaged it as its made for gelcoat/fiberglass. (rv's and boats)...

Hmmm.... I'll give my old vendor rep a call and see if he cant shed some light on this.
