I'm am looking to upgrade the rear swaybar on my 07 A3 2.0T S-line. So far I have found that H&R has a 22mm and a 24mm and Hotchkis has an aggressive 27mm. I was looking for any feedback from people that have used either brands/sizes.

    thanks

FYI, here are some more RSB options:

    Neuspeed 25mm RSB:
    http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/i...6211_6530_8809

    H-Sport and AST RSBs:
    http://www.purems.com/products/products.php/CA=1470

    Autotech RSB:
    http://www.autotech.com/prod_susp_swybars.htm#MK5

Good luck with your research, haha.

If it helps, the most popularly used are Neuspeed and H&R (both the 22mm and 24mm versions).

The Autotech one has been ranted about quite a bit, something to do with the bushings being too large that they break the mounting brackets after some use.

I purchased the Neuspeed RSB after many hours of researching which bar I wanted. It was down to the Neuspeed and H&R 22mm. Despite the Neupseed bushings having to be re-lubricated every year in order to prevent squeeking (the H&R bushings are maintenance/squeek free), I still decided to go this route because I feel that it is a quality made product that will give me the performance I am looking for under aggressive street use.

I made this thread not too long ago, it may help you with your decision. Be sure to click on the links that other people suggested, there are some good ones!

What about just installing a Stern Rear Subframe Brace?

I have even talked to Mike at Purems about a GB on these if anyone is interested.

I too am looking to upgrade the RSB on my S-Line A3. Being the engineer that I am, I put my car up on a lift last week and measured the stock sway bars. The stock RSB is 21mm in diameter. I'm probably going to get the Hotchkis kit unless someone here comes out and says that another kit is just as good.

    Re: A3 rear swaybar

The Hotchkiss and Neuspeed appear to be similar tubular bar designs that should be lighter than equivalent stiffness (the tubular bars will of necessity need to be larger diameter than a solid bar of similar stiffness. Oh, wait you're an engineer, so you knew that) solid bars like H&Rs If you looked under the car you probably noticed that changing even the bushings in front requires dropping the front subframe. Swapping the rear is very straightforward.

You may also want to try just upgrading the bushings to Poly. These are available from Summit Racing / Prothane for about $10.95 (!) a pair. They add a significant amount of rear roll stiffness and improve both turn-in (a little) and holding a line through a corner (a lot). A RSB will do the same thing, only more.

Caveat: Too much RSB will make the car prone to snap oversteer on trailing throttle, especially in the wet. And just like an old Porsche 911, the only way out is your right foot, firmly applied to the right pedal. Or go off the inside of the corner, ass first.

Yeah and being the electrician I am I took ohm readings on the main harness while the car was still on the dealer's lot.

What kinda squeeking does the Neuspeed bar make? Is it like a squashing noise over dips?

I wonder if this could be my misterious noise i hear every so often over SOME not all dips and bumps?

that's a good question, I have never heard the Neuspeed RSB squeek in person. Maybe someone else can chime in here

I hear the same thing! Does it almost sound like something is loose and rattling?

    Re: A3 rear swaybar

    I LOVE IT!!

The install was pretty straight forward. I set it to the more aggressive setting. The car feels more planted, the steering feels more precise when you enter a turn and the car feels overall more flat. I thought it might be too much, but it feels great. With some effort you can induce some oversteer. No ride quality was sacrificed either. Definitely worth the money! I think I thoroughly pissed off all of my neighbors today.
