H7 HID retrofit into stock HID (D2S) housing?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been searching on the forum about how to retrofit an aftermarket H7 HID kit into the stock D2S housing; however I couldn't really find any threads about this. I recall that I was told by AudiRacerS4 that people are successfully fit in H7s into D2S housing, does anyone know or have any experiences about this?

also I would like to know how to fit the stock HID sytem into the stock fog lights.

    thanks.

Thats a h7, the slot which they go into is the same what is different is the connector on the back.

ive done this to my sti bak then. it was quite easy if u have the time and the tools.. i cut the bulb out using a torch and afterwards i inserted the hid bulb onto the housing, epoxy glued and then added silicone sealant.. took me about an hour to cut and another hour to do everything... hope this helps

I think he was looking to do this without having to modify the bulbs.

OP you will probably have to change your balast to the H7 balast. then just use the H7 bulbs from then on. but if dm3nace is correct then you might be able to just take the wiring harness from the h7 and splice it in to your D2S harness. I don't know for sure though.

I am just speculating here though. So I cannot be held liable for anything that doesnt work.

ohh I have a full H7 HID kit bulbs and ballast that I want to fit them into the headlights.
Also put the exisiting stock HID down to the foglight. sorry for the confusion.

dm3nace: im confused that why do you need a torch to cut out the bulb/wire???

If you already have the full kit, then just swap the H7 bulbs and ballasts in there and turn them on

Re: H7 HID retrofit into stock HID (D2S) housing?

I took out the headlight to look at the ballast and wiring. I found out that the torx bolts that secure the ballast seemed to be different than the normal torx bolts, is there a special tool that i need to take out those bolts on th stock ballast? also there are 2 wires (brown and red) connected to the stock ballast, which one is positive red or brown?

    thanks

h7 ballast will not fit in your oem ballast holder. You have to mount your ballast else where, or use double sided tape/velcro and stick into the oem spot. You also need to run d2s >> h7 adapters so the bulb will stay in place. red is positive, brown is negative.

Re: H7 HID retrofit into stock HID (D2S) housing?

ok finally i put the H7 HID into my headlight.
now my question is how do you guys install a HID system into the foglight, I found that the H7 bulb is connected onto a base and then lock into the foglight housing, see pics below.
now if i would like to install the D2S stock unit into the foglight how much modification do i need to do? it seems like there's a need to mod the H7 connector even with an aftermarket H7 HID unit?

how the actual light bulb put into the "connector housing"

and then the lock ring on the "connector housing"

i guess my main question is that without the "connector housing", the lock ring can not secure ANY bulbs into the foglight housing...

    please help~

I don't get how either of these will help mounting HID bulbs into the stock fog lights? I have HIDs in my fog lights but I ghettofabbed them horribly. Basically they are held on with wire strung around the back of them and pressing them against the housing and no "backing"

(that guy^ is just floating around in between the inter cooler and fog light housing with the HID wires connected. The bulbs will not stay in the housing like the stock ones because they are plugged into the back. On the a4s I believe there is a wire bracket that holds the bulbs in similar to our headlight bulbs on the front (the lens side not wired side).

The only way, I know of, is to secure the bulbs like I have and have the backing piece float around (or shave it so it's just the connectors and not the circle sealer) or find a way to fit the bulb and wires and the connectors all in the housing with the sealer by making holes/dremeling. I have ruined a few housings trying to do this without any success.

sorry for the paint but i dont have pshop on my work computer

its crude but hopefully you get the idea of how I set mine up:
