    bumper repair, best solution?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I picked up a s4 bumper tonight, pretty cheap, really cheap, but it has some damage. It is cracked in a couple spots, one being pretty bad on the drivers side lower half, the bottom, is cracked up to where the grill would be. What do you think would be the best way to repair this? Would fiberglass be strong enough to hold it? thanks for any input..

well, its a bit late, and its currently in the back of my car and it is snowing out.. So cant do much about that except to kinda outline how it is on a normal bumper.. It is cracked where it's highlighted.

no ..fiberglass will not work those bumpers are plastic and i bealive it will not stick u would have to get SEM bumper repair kit its a tube has 1 to 1 mix that u push and thn mix them together but first u should get a SEM product i belive its a metal to plastic or plastic to plastic glue very good idunoo hope some of this makes sense

    Re: bumper repair, best solution?

all the above answers are sorta correct, you're bumper is probabaly "TPO" plastic

if it was me, I'd use my plastic welder to "tack" the bumper back into alignment

feather edge all cracks, sand a good amount of paint away from the imperfections, then I'd use a TPO prep spray and some TPO repair adhesive either by 3m or SEM, or duramix (all are 2 part tubes that require a specail gun)

    fill imperfections and cracks

for extra strength you can lay up fiberglass cloth in the adhesive in non visable areas

(note that does not mean fiberglass and resin in the typical sense, it just means layering the glass cloth into the unset adhesive to strengthen it)

    Re: bumper repair, best solution?

From experience, its easier just to find another bumper. A paint can smashed my bumper pretty good and its never been the same ever again. I've repaired the cracks with the SEM bumper repair stuff. Next time I will try a plastic welder to feed in some more plastic to bond.

    Re: bumper repair, best solution?

Yeah, well I mean I don't see myself coming along another s4 bumper anytime soon unless I feel like paying a lot for it. So I'm gunna try and repair it, gunna have to pick up some of that SEM stuff. Plastic welded a little bit today just to hold it together so it doesn't get worse And just completely snap in half ha. This si more or less a project for me cause I mean my stock bumper is fine.. Just wanted some ideas of how to go about fixing it. Thanks for the replies/help. Any other input would be greatly appreciated, first time working with this kinda stuff.
