B6 S4 .vs. B7 S4

ok....Ive been thinking about "upgrading" to a B6 S4 from a B5 S4, but I have seen a couple 05 B7 S4 almost at the same price as the B6 S4'S.

any thoughts ?

same V8 motor ?

same MPG ?

biggest differences come in on 06 model year like 40:60 torque split, but i like the B6 better for the clean lines

Same motor, same MPG. I think springs and dampers are different.

unless you are getting 2006+ not 2005.5+ then you do NOT recieve the 60/40 rear/front torque split benefit, it is 50:50 same as b6

Ultimately, the differences are truly negligable other than looks. I went out in September to buy a 05.5 B7, and saw an 05 B6 literally right next to it. There was a $1500 difference in price (B6 cheaper), but the deciding factor was that I found myself checking out the B6 even though I was there for the B7.

I bought the B6 that day, I just liked the way it looked better, especially from the back (I'm an ass guy).

i like the B6 more than the B7 and was set to find a 2005 B6, only, didn't even care for B7 at all even if they were cheaper (they were not).

though i must say, the B6 does look old-ish relatively speaking. the B7 still looks new-ish.

having had both the B6 and now the B7 the suspension is alot rougher and tighter on the b7. I would say more than my B6 with mods. I cannot figure it out

the 60:40 split is only available with MT6 editions of B7 S4 MY06 or higher...having just upgraded from B6 to B7 the interiors are almost identical, the suspensions are stiffer IMHO on the B7 and at idle the B7 sounds a little meaner...BTW I have the 60:40 split now and can't tell a difference but I must admit I am mearly a daily driver, not a track tester...

if you're going to lower your car, the suspension doesn't really matter. the 60:40 can be accomplished other ways

Same situation with me, but the end result was different. I went in to look at two B6's they had on the lot, but they were in bad condition. Next to them was a B7. I was never a fan of the B7, but as I looked at her more and more she got me. All I have to say if you go with the B7 you will end up loving her too.

when I went to the Dealer to test drive my B6, I wasn't sure if I'd be ok with the looks. I've always preferred the side and rear profiles of the B6 vs B7, but I think the front end should look more agressive. But when I walked into the detailing bay where they had it parked, my jaw dropped. It was minty mint, and I fell in love.

Not sure if that contributed anything worthwhile to this topic - but maybe my advice is that I wouldn't choose one over the other for looks alone.

i agree the exhaust on the stock B7 exhaust is great i almost wish i did not get the apr exhaust because if it was not for looks they sound about the same... the resanator on the b7 is really small compared to the B6 when i put my miltek exhaust

I too fall into the category of liking the B6 looks over the B7 looks. My friend bought a B7 S4 not too long ago, black, just like my B6, and I still prefer mine when we have them parked next to each other. I think the back and sides are way hotter on the B6. B7 front grille is starting to grow on me however. I like the open mouth look of it. My heart still falls with the B6 in the end. So hot. =)

From what I know, the two cars are the same, except of course the looks.

In my oppinion the front end of the B7 is better looking, but the backend of the B6 is wayyyyy better looking than the B7...the B7 looks like a wimpy car from the back. The B6 looks like it will kick your ass comin' or goin'.

You can find some B6's out there with some low mileage and low prices to go along with it.

For myself its a mixed verdict. But I chose the B6 because it seems to hold fast to its European look. In my opinion the B7 lost juuuust a little bit of that flavor and swayed a little towards the Far East.

I'm new to Audi's but I chose the B6 over the B7 purely on looks (particularly the grill on the B7 did not appeal to me). Obviously personal preference but but just my opinion.

I test the drove a 2005 B6; prior to the new B7 Body style. I loved the ride, quick as crap, but I'm really not a fan of the front. I really like the front of the B7's, the B6 looks "dated" to me. But I was checking Autotrader.com and they have some pretty good looking 06's, and very good lease programs.

like them both, i think the b7 still looks a bit more fresh. and i personally love the grill. mechanically not much different. stock i didn't particularly like my b7 suspension. kind of harsh and way too high.

Owning a b6 i used to envy the b7, but it's give or take for me now. The b7 looks much more aggressive, but the b6 looks much more classy.

I prefer the look of the B6, but the B7 is a fantastic looking car, as well. Especially in person. Basically a jump ball there.

For me, though, the big difference is the exhaust note. The B7 sounds decidely better. No question about that. A nice rumble at idle, and even at lower RPMs. If not for the ugly and weak looking quad tips, it might not even need an aftermarket catback. The B6 is too quiet.

True, that's why I went with the B7. Resale will be slightly better since it is a "newer" body style. Especially with the B8's coming out soon, the B6's will be 2 generations old. The B7 also fit's Audi's current image with the trapezoidal grill. The B6 looks outdated (although it is still sharp and I still like them).

I'm partial to the B6 looks as well. For sure the back and side lines are preferable, but I have also thought that the front of the B7 is just too aggressive for the A4/S4. On the RS4 however, I think the B7 front grill goes really well.

I just picked up my b7 S4 6spd manny a couple of months ago and i'm loving it!! The reason I didnt want to go with the b6 is because to me the front end looks the same as the older Audi's. I love the back end of my b7.. love the dual tip APR exhaust Also, I got a pretty kick ass deal on my b7! I can't believe I almost went with an A4.... (no offense to A4 owners)

I like both the B6 and B7.The style arguement breaks down like this:

B7: I like that the car looks more aggressive and modern.
B6: I like that the car looks more 'classic audi' and european.

Overall I give the design award to the B6. The lines flow much better. However if you like the more aggressive grille and the feeling of driving something that looks more modern, go with the B7.

It looks dated because it IS dated. Its an older style. That might actually be a GOOD thing 20 years down the road. The S4 is losing the V8 next year - going back to a turbo V6. There will be two body styles available with the V8. The B6 [2 1/2 years] and the B7 [3 1/2 years]. And check these CHARTS!! woo hoo!!
