Rear View Mirror Replacement READ!!!!!

Hey all,

I have an S4 and had the rear view mirror go bad... big suprise... but anyhow, I used to have an E46 M3. I had the same problem and got a free replacement from the manufacturer of the mirrors. When I got my S4 last November, I saw that the manufacturer was the same. Magna Donnelly. Any how I thought I would take a shot in the dark and send the same person an email to see what happened. Low and behold, I got a new one for free. If anyone needs a replacement, they will, as a pro bono gesture, send you a free replacement and a prepaid shipping tag to return the bad one. You need to send a picture and fill out a form but just send an email to:

State your case and get the new one for free!!!!

I hope this isn't old news on this forum but if not, mods you should sticky this thread!!!!

Wow, this is some great information! There are actually some businesses out there that still stand behind their product. Now if only the manufacturer of the instrument cluster display would stand behind their product.

there is a fluid inside that is used for the autodim feature and it leaks inside the mirror and will no longer autodim. It is some type of LCD technonlogy i think. It also makes it very hard to see at all even in daylight. If yours ever fails you will know right away.

I had that same problem on my E46 M3. I found that out on M3forum. I called the people and sure enough they sent me a new one.

Dammit, the one thing on my car that I can get replaced for free still works great. Mine still works like a charm. Now that I've said that, it will probably fail tomorrow.

Does the b5 a4 use the same miror? In mine the liquid has collected at the bottom and doesn't work. Do you know if they made the ones for the side mirror also?

It will say magna donnely on the back of the rear view mirror. check, and email dani and ask about a replacement, you will get instructions

I don't know about the side mirrors.

You need to send your vin number along with the car info. Onle one replacement is allowed. But this thread should be stickied. I remember when my M3 mirror went out and I got a new one. I was happy, except I let a friend try to install is and he cracked my wind shield.

I just looked, it says donnelly on the back so I guess they use the same mirror. Any tips on what I should tell him in the email?

nope, just email and tell them you have a mirror that has leaked and can they possibly help you with a replacement. they will instruct you from there. be sure to put them in the position to do you a favor. ask nice!

My rear view mirror basically melted.. The autodim film just melted off and its just glass now. I have no idea how it happened at all. I go to school in NC and it does get hot but I thought that was a little crazy. I guess Ill email and see if this falls under warranty.

mine failed, it was 100-150 for a new one, already paid for it unfortunately, on the passenger side. good info

Yes. They manufactured both and they replace both.

I used that email address in november and it was active then, and i got excellent service. Someone posted the contact info to the company which may be the alternate route. I promise this is good info, it has worked for me twice now and I do not know why some emails bounce back and some don't. wierd. I hope all will post their results or if they find out there is a new email, keep us all posted.

I would not over call the guy. I would just pick one deignated person to represent us all. If he gets overwhelmed with calles me might not be so helpful. If you would like, I will call him tomorrow in regards to this issue, but I know he has helped me before and I can address it appropriately. Remember he is not doing this because he HAS to but because he wants to help.

So those of you who do call be respectful and not demanding. But I would recommend only one of us to call him. As I said if you all agree, let me know and I will. I will post back with updated information and a verdict.
