Saab 9-3 Vs Audi A4

I was at the saab dealership the other day. I have to say I really like the car. If I wasnt so anti GM I would have bought one over the A4. THe problem with the car is its a boat!!! It weighs about the same as a A4 and its FWD.

Still though Saab seems like an innovator..I was reading up. Looks like a good company.


Have any of you ever owned a saab? Any comparison notes to a A4?

my dad had a 1983 Saab 900s. It was a pretty cool car. I like Saabs 900 turbo special edition one. I cant remember the specific name. I almost picked up an 03 9-5 Aero instead of my A4. Your right IF they werent a GM company. DAMN IT! Have you seen the new AWD Saab that is supposed to be coming out in a year or two?

I think the new ones are OK looking but the A4s still beat it. Also I heard that they start having problems around 50k miles but idk that could be wrong.

dude i rode in a early 00 saab it was the biggest pos. the interior was absurd. not sure what GM has improved on them these days maybe they are a malibu or something now but man that car sucked.

and i test drove a 9-5 with the asymetrical turbo charger (3 exhaust ports power a k03-sized turbo) instead of twin-charging lol. after i ragged that car for about 10 minutes the car was smoking from all ends at the dealer. he said must be because they just changed the oil. lol.

oddly every once in a while i see a hot looking saab; but when you go looking for them they all look fugly :)

I had a 9-5aero for a short time. It was a great car. Lost of nice features. I really liked the night mode gages. The v6 turbo had alot of power and im sure it would smoke any stock a4. Also was very good in the snow. Until then I had many Audi's and a few bmw's but never a saab. I was very impressed. Great car imo.

Umm...a Saab 9-3 will smoke the shit out of a a4 1.8t anytime stock vs stock. Saabs are actually decent cars, and not a bad brand at all. Quit hating on other cars you audi fan boys. :P

My brother has a 9-5 and for a couple months after i totalled my jetta i had to drive it to school and work. I personally like the car. It has a lot of power. The interior though, in my opinion isn't the greatest looking but is very comfortable. Don't think i would own one, but i dont mind driving my brothers every once and a while.

and yes, my brothers stock 01' 9-5 Aero would smoke my stock B6.

lol Im sorry but If you compare categories, Saab is the only other id consider.


Id NEVER drive a BMW because I live in Canada, and EVERYONE has them.

Id never drive a Volvo just because to be honest I hate the interiors, I hate the look of the cars, and my ex used to drive one.


Theres no real tunability for non AFFORDABLE Mercedes

That leaves the unique Saab that is a 20-1 ratio on the road of Audi to Saab.
Turbo, Now AWD, Great Crash Testing, Decent Price Range.


I just dont know about reliability. I havent had time to test drive one just because I dont want to go through the bullshit of the "Fake crunching numbers at the sales guys desk just to drive the car"

I always have to give fake phone numbers when I go in for test drives. Nissan called me for 3 months straight after I test drove a Spec V Sentra.

To be honest , I heard up and down that Saab interiors suck.
When i got in, I found it more of a "Luxury seating" . Less of a grip you in feel and more of a "relax and drive" feel.
The interior is very basic but that isnt a bad thing.

my dad has a saab 9-5 aero, and I have a 1.8T A4. In all honesty, while the car is quick, it doesn't compare to the audi. As has already been stated, the engine is more than descent, but looks-wise it falters a bit. The interior is way underdone for a car that costs what it does.

Final conclusion: I'm trying to convince my dad to turn in the saab and bust an A5...to be continued.

Saab's are pretty damn nice, although I don't really like how heavily they share parts with GM's, I'd take a 2008 S40 T5 AWD over any 9-3.
