    Rear sunshade stopped working?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was about to brag about how sweet my rear sunshade is to my friend, and I hit the button and the damn thing isn't working (Murphy's law). I'm sure Audi will replace this, but has this happened to anyone else? Also, I can't even conceve of a reason why it stopped working... nobody has ever been in the back seat and I've never put anything in the trunk, it just crapped out.

it could be just dust that got in the cracks and the condensation just moistened it. When it dried, it probably made it get stuck.. just my .02

How cold out was it? If the interior temperature is too low it won't deploy to keep it from cracking/ripping.

Lack of use is the only thing I can think of.... that beign said, I love my rear sunshade! I just wish they made the side shades power, too. But i guess they didn't do that because you might have a passenger in the back with his/her arm out the window...

    Re: Rear sunshade stopped working?

I've used it occassionally, almost exclusively just to show people I have one... It stopped working at a range of temps between -20F and 50F, when the car was cold and warm, so I don't think its weather/temperature related. The button seams functional, the shade simply doesn't come up.

If the car wasn't under warranty I'd look into it myself, but as far as I'm concerned this is Audi's problem and they are going to have to look into it for me.

Check in your owner's manual. It states that the sunshade will not operate below about 20 degrees. You live in Wheaton, I live in Buffalo Grove. I had the same thing happen to me. It's cold, wait until the car warms up, it should work.

    Re: Rear sunshade stopped working?

OK guys, p.82 of the owner's manual:

"If the sun blind is operated repeatedly within a short time, the built-in overload protection circuit may be tripped. If this occurs, you will have to wait briefly before you can operate the sun blind again."

"Because of the decrease in the flexibility of the blind material at temperatures below freezing, the electrical circuit which operates the blind shuts off when the temperature in the vehicle fall below 23 F (-5 C). The blind cannot be operated until the passenger compartment warms up above this temperature."

I experienced this last winter and thought WTF, I broke the sunshade! But once the car warmed up, the sunshade retracted just fine. I use mine a lot in the summer time. Black on black car you really need it when parked all day outside at work.

I think the clicking you're hearing is the relay switch activating. It's located on the underside of the parcel shelf, along with the motor for the sunshade. I installed mine myself, so I'm familiar with the layout and operation.

I bought the rear power sunshade from stevez1 over on navplus.us for $500, switch and wiring throw in another $50. Installed myself.

Have no clue as to what the new price from dealer would be.

    Re: Rear sunshade stopped working?

Yup, just the rear shade. Yes, I do have a sedan. You install this in place of the stock parcel shelf. A bit of a PITA to get the old one out and the new one in. A Bentley manual is really helpful.

I'd try looking on ebay for companies that do dismantling. Even though they don't list a particular part, if they have current B6 S4 parts, they may have it. This is how I got my S4 Recaros.

Try [email protected]. I just bought some S4 parts from them.
