is there really that big of a difference between these 2 in person?? i originally wanted white.. but it is almost impossible to find one with the s-line package.. so I might get black which is my second choice.. but now I find out there are 2 different blacks.. lets hear some opinions..

you can barely tell the difference unless they're next to each other.

    both awesome.

i will never own another black car however, cause while they look best when clean, they never are.

I'm probably one of the laziest people on this forum when it comes to washing cars and I'm amazed at how clean my brilliant black looks. Stick to driving on civilized roads.

They are a PITA to keep clean but the effort is worth it.

I cant say it will be my last black car, but my next car is either white, red, gray, or imola.

    Ps. Maybe blue

coming from someone who has owned BOTH in the last two weeks (don't ask); the Brilliant Black is your regular, deep, shiny, black. The Phantom Black has some flakes in it with a pearlesecent/dark-smoke-grey look to it depending on how you look at it.. ergo: Phantom Black as it looks Black most of the time with certain angles and lighting looking a possible dark-smoke-grey kind of color.

Re: phantom black vs. brilliant black

we have 2 black vehicles.. the honda is black and now the Audi. the Galant I own is white and the GTR is dark blue. the black is a little harder to care for than the blue and both show swirl marks easily if you dont' wash properly. the white is mostly impervious to looking dirty except I never wash it.. I consider it camoflauge.

Black looks great and since you're in SoCal it doesn't rain often (except now that I bought a new car!!!!) so you don't have to wash it constantly to kep it clean. use a car cover or garage, wash it 2-3 times a month and use one of those duster-thingies if you're really concerned about it looking dusty.

Re: phantom black vs. brilliant black

Brilliant black is a solid color like jet black, and phantom black is metallic. I'd rather have phantom black, but I wouldn't pay any extra for it... Both look sexy when clean, and everyone will just see that it is "black" anyway.

My car doesn't get that bad, I wash it once a week and it almost always looks perfect (when it's not winter haha)

They both very similar and unless they're side by side, it's a bit hard to tell the difference. I personally own a phantom black, and if I had the choice again I wouldn't have paid the extra $2500AUD it costs over brilliant black.

Re: phantom black vs. brilliant black

My last 6 cars have all been black (including an A6 & my current A4). Black is just beautiful. Since I enjoy washing & detailing my Audi's I don't think it's a big deal to keep clean. White looks better when dirty, BUT it looks worse if you don't keep it properly waxed (although with cars now being clear coated it's not as big a deal).

Re: phantom black vs. brilliant black

I don't really mind cleaning and detailing my car constantly, but scratches and swirl marks show allot more than in most colors. Since I'm a bit OCD about my car, I have to keep polishing them out and maintain really good coat of wax.

When Brilliant Black and Phantom Black are next to each other...Phantom black looks like a 'lighter' shade of black.

I have Brilliant Black. I keep my car clean and waxed. It hasn't been washed in a few weeks now and we've had snow, but from 15 feet away it still looks clean.

I love phantom black...when it's clean. Hard to do in the dead of winter though. Anyway, there's a noticeable difference between brilliant and the phantom when viewed together up close (solid paint vs. metallic/pearl effect).

Not the best picture to show off phantom, but sorta give you the idea...
