    Hydraulic Trunk Lifts

    Guys,

I'm new to the S4 scene, so I'm not sure if this is just my car or all of them...

When I open the trunk of my car, it does not automatically lift to the full up position. If I lift the trunk lightly, it just stops where I left it.

My girlfriend smoked her head on the corner of the trunk cause it was late at night and she was bending down to put groceries in the trunk. Needless to say, I got a bunch of complaining about my "shit trunk" for a while...

If I replace the hydraulic lifts, will it given a breath of new life?

    Re: Hydraulic Trunk Lifts

Normal... I was looking at the new Jettas, they have a spring incorporated to the hinge to lift the lid to the open position, but I don't know if it would fit. Wouldn't really be worth it since these cars have no electric trunk release anyway... But yeah, that's how its supposed to be. Might try lubing the hinges and it should open more easily on its own and not stick in whatever position you leave it, but still wont spring open.....

This is what I came here to ask about too. It looks like my question was answered.
I have a 2000 A4 (bought in 2001 during a lot's inventory clearance). I bought it in Arizona and don't remember the trunk being as stiff as it has the last few years.
After reading here that it apparently was always like.
I imagine I've only noticed it in the past few years because in Arizona I most often used a company car, here in Washington, I don't. Also, my parents live in Washington and I didn't actually start noticing it until I swapped them for their pick-up for a weekor so and had my Mom tell me she didn't like my car. ... My response of course was "How could anyone not like this car!?" She explained that she didn't like using my Audi because it was very difficult for her to open and close the trunk.
I assumed the struts needed to be replaced.
I replaced them today and it honestly feels like it's harder to open and close than it was previously.
I'm a little surprised that such a "high-end" vehicle, or a vehicle in this class, doesn't have a smoother operating trunk.
    ..........................
Has anyone found an aftermarket fix for this?

I hate to admit it, but it's one of the few things that does annoy me about our cars is that the trunk doesn't open on it's own. I'm too accustomed to the other fancy cars in the family I guess :(
