Well, I don't believe in that statement so that's why it needed some explaining.
First off, German cars come with a lot more high-tech goodies and gadgets than most competing Japanese models. Personally I think the Honda S2000 and the older Mazda RX-7 are much more fun cars to drive than the A4. Not to mention the upcoming Nissan GTR spanked the 911 Turbo's Nurburgring laptime. Argue as much as you want but I'm pretty sure the GTR will be a "fun" car for me at least.

The s2000's steering rack OWNS the a4's, no question. You can hate the lack of torque, the looks, and the interior, but 2 things you CANNOT hate on that car are the steering/handling and shifter, they're absolutely perfect.

    Re: TSX vs. A4

If I were to have the choice between the TSX and B7 a4, I'd pick the a4, just because I love my AWD, but dollar for dollar, the TSX does come with tons of options, and excellent handling, the engine is just too outdated for me, and lacks power for how I like to drive. Give it awd and a 250 hp v6 and I'd hop into one though.

    Maybe you should've gotten a RL, 300hp and "Super-Handling"-AWD

TSX was my first choice though, and then I ended up with the A4 because of AWD.

The TSX is a LOT less expensive than the A4 similarly equipped. I dont even consider them in the same class.

The A4 is hands down a better car. TL vs A4 is closer in terms of fit/finish, although the TL obviously overpowers the Audi.

I chose my A4 over the TL-S I was considering leasing though. The TSX just felt less solid to me. Wind/road noise, hollow doors, etc.

RL is a dads car. I needed something "fast" with good handling and awd.

It's not an all-encompassing quote - there will always be exceptions; it's just a fun saying. Loosen up a little?

Also, German cars do have alot of technology in them (engine advancements, ECU advancements, etc.) but when it comes to pure computer gadgets that the passenger/driver can play with, Japanese cars typically come with more DOLLAR-for-DOLLAR. German cars tend to nickle-and-dime you for every option...

    Re: TSX vs. A4

So, this is not exactly a fair comparison, but my husband loves the story & I'm still pretty amused by it so here goes.

We have a lot of snow in our area right now, & our house is in one of the hardest hit areas of town. I've got so much on the ground that to get out to the main road (which is about 1/4 mile), I plow with my car since it doesn't clear what's on the ground. That's fine, it does great in the snow with the Nokian winter studless tires & Quattro, the car is just damn near unstoppable. So anyway, I had to take a coworker home today since she lives right up the street & her car is stuck in her driveway. She drives an Acura TL, & there was no way that she could get it out. So we get to her house & I'm about to turn into her driveway & she says, "no don't, you'll get stuck". I turn in anyway & pull all the way up near her car. Then I back up & turn a little to get out of the ruts, to pack the snow down for her. I did that over & over - forward, reverse, forward, reverse, plowing & packing all of the snow down. She was speechless. And when I left....well, no problem at all getting out (I mean it's hardly a challenge when your tires don't even spin ). So all she had to do was dig out around her car, since she had 2 nice big, wide ruts to follow out as well as less height on the snow in the middle.

I've never driven an Acura, & I can't add anything to the performance comparisons. But where I live, the Quattro factor just blows the friggin' doors off of that TL. Tomorrow she'll probably come in saying that I plowed her road for her. I didn't do it though, Quattro was responsible. :)

Exactly. Don't know how else to better explain it.
Actually I have my eyes set on the new Nissan GTR and I'm waiting for the V-spec model to be released and picking that up. The A4 will continue to be my daily driver due its gas efficiency.

I also think it is true that the asia cars tend to give you more options for your dollar. However I also think a lot of those options, but more so the standard equipment is not near the quality it is in the german cars. Inside door handles for instance tend to be of a much cheaper, or least cheaper feeling material. Not a solid metal level. Of course I think there are alot more examples of this.

    Interesting post.....

I am not much into racing, but I enjoy getting on the gas from time to time. I ran into a tsx at a light the other day and he gave me "the look'.

Started tapping the paddles and off we go. He had me at first. but up at about seventy or so. He started falling behind. My car wanted to keep going but I decided to lay back and bring back down to normal speeds.

I had him and would have taken hime in the long run if it came down to it.

A mile down the road i ran into him again and he just shook his head in disappointment!

To give this bump some legit reason:
I just raced my brother's TSX (2005) last weekend. I have Stage 1 and he has a CAI. I beat him by about 1/2 a car length in a 1/4 mile drag. Pretty good for a cabriolet against a sedan if I do say so

Wow what an out dated discussion and a 3+ year bump.

The TSX and TL have been revised by now.
    TSX V6 will definitely kill the A4 but the 2.4 I4 won't.
TL will definitely kill the A4 and is now available in 6spd AWD which is good except the fact that the car is ugly as hell.

Was reading through this thread then saw the dates. Another 3 year old thread bumped from the archives...Jesus...

I don't think you can compare most of the cars in this thread. I had to laugh at everyone comparing the ol' jap junkers with a weed wacker motor to cars 10 years newer. I'd rather buy a slower car represented by 4 rings and have everyone realize that I drive a status symbol then be subjected to the likes of a soda can on crack.

I worked to purchase a certain build quality and refinement, not settle for something inferior. Not to mention most of this thread is outdated.

I drove Honda products for 20 years - and the first one I got (Civic) was because I was so sick of my VW Sirocco being so unreliable (but beautiful...damn).

I test drove an new A4 back in 1996, but it was just a pipe dream at that point. I ended up getting an Accord Coupe EX 5-speed in 1998.

When I bought my 2002 RSX new, I really wanted an A4 then, but had always had such good luck with my Civic, Integra, and Accord I felt it was the smarter move.

I just never was really in love with the RSX - and I had to replace a cam shaft at 45K, and all kind of other things that aren't supposed to break on Hondas.

In the meantime, my sister had a 1999 A4 5-speed Quattro and I just LOVE it. I mean, when I would visit her I felt like a king driving places even though it was an 8-year old plus car and she was not great about taking care of it.

So, even though I had test drove a couple of new TSX's and had even worked for Honda for a time, when I had to replace the RSX this year, I knew exactly what I wanted, and I can honestly say I finally have my dream car - other than maybe an RS4.

I can't bash Honda too much, but the TSX doesn't have soul like the A4, if that makes sense.

Now I just hope the reliability holds up because the rest of the car blows away Acura.

Oh - and when I lived in Buffalo, my Honda/Acura cars were always so bad in the snow I would get an old Subaru 4WD with a stick just for the winters. Would have loved to had the Quattro back then.

Not to mention most of this thread is outdated.

so how pissed were you when you ended up with an a4 that creaks, moans and groans its way to the destination

haha yeah i was gonna say exactly that

my mazda rx8 was nicer inside than my a4 in my opinion
maybe not in every respect but most lol

    and i dont think a b7 a4 is a status symbol...
people driving around new civics pay more for their cars than some b7 owners paid for theirs used lol

I traded in my s2000 for my a4. The interior of the honda was the worst of any modern car I have had- and I had a wrangler and 2 mustangs before that. It was fun to drive above 6500 rpms, but not really below it. It did handle well, but it was too small, and had the stereo sound of oh, say a 1985 cassette player. I traded it in after less than 2 years. I like my a4 more, but as others have said some of the comparisons being made are totally not even comparisons- I bought the a4 bc I wanted to totally change directions. Japanese 2 door convertible sports car to German 4 door sport sedan. The s2000 fans are crazy over those things, I guess I just didn't get it.

I think a better comparison now would be q5 vs rdx. There about the same size booth have 4 pot turbo engines and all wheel drive.

im going to disagree with the moaning and groaning. every (well, 3) late-MY japanese car i've had has rattled horribly, and creaked WAY more than the a4. at least in the a4 it's just superficial stuff. our b6 is at 100k and is in considerably better shape inside and out in terms of noises, appearance and mechanicals, than my last 3 brand new recent japanese cars were with a quarter the mileage. my b7 is the same as our b6, solid. after two new late-my subarus and a honda, i had never heard so many rattles in my life. now, compared to the better japanese cars of the mid-late 90's, it's just night and day in terms of the quality, it's simply atrocious now from what i've seen. I won't buy another non-luxo japanese car any time soon, and even then I am still relatively suspicious of the build quality of the luxo brands.

every car makes some noises, it's unrealistic to expect them not to. however, there's a point at which it's just unacceptable imo, and audi isn't anywhere near that if you ask me, especially at the pricepoint of the a4 which isn't all that much relatively speaking. if you want a dead silent car, get a big fat lexus, but those will make a few noises too fyi.

wasn't implying that it is dead silent, just that those who are complaining about squeaks, creaks, and rattles would do well to try driving a honda, toyota, subaru (or other supposed ultra reliable brands) made in the past 7-8 years, and then try complaining about the a4.

The best part about these bumps is that the people who bump topics so old, just disappear after posting lol

Whats even better is that the person that bumped this topic has ONLY one post on their record...............and its the one that bumped this topic.
