A4 Sport Suspension Or Not...Trying to find out.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

As many of you know, a few weeks ago I bought what was supposed to be an OEM B7 A4 Sport Suspension. From the research I did, it sounded like the new suspension would fit on the car very easily as long as the right parts were sent with it. (i.e. bump stops/shocks/struts/springs/etc...) I had my mechanic try to put this suspension on my car last week. He found that he couldn't get it to fit. He said the sport springs were much wider at the top than the stock springs. That means the the spring plate, which goes on the top and bottom of each spring to hold it in place was too small for the new springs.

After a little bit of research we found one of two things...one, Audi changed their spring design during the 2007 model year. This suspension is off an 06 A4 Quattro...

Or, it's not an A4 suspension at all. I've seen the diagrams of the A4 suspension and the A3 suspension. The springs that came with what I bought look like A3 springs. Not A4 springs. I've attached 3 diagrams, and the picture of my stock spring, next to the sport spring (The stock is on the bottom) The first diagram is an A4, the second an A3, the third is a TT.

Could someone please help me out here. I'd like to find out what this is, that way I may be able to sell the whole thing, since I can't use it.

Also, I tried looking up the part numbers on the front and rear shocks/struts, however the sticker was so faded, that the numbers could not be read.

    Thanks in Advance!

    ~Eddie

Were both sets of springs the same size at the tops?

as far as i know, yes - it was pretty much a perfect fit. i know that sport suspension comes with red shocks vs. black for the a4 (not sure if it's the same for the a3) but that could be something worth checking into.

you might also want to call a reputable shop and ask them for their input/thoughts (try futrell autowerks or matrix integrated)

What color are the paint marks on the springs and what is does the part number on the shock absorbers start with? 1K0 = A3 (1K0 is the Jetta V platform), 8E0 = A4.

The shocks/struts say 8E0. However, I think the springs are wrong. The shocks/struts may be correct.

Re: A4 Sport Suspension Or Not...Trying to find out.

I've personally taken the suspension off of my B6 ('03 sport), and B7 ('07 non-sport) and can definitively say that the spring perches and spring design are the same.

Your parts appear to be correct. Are you sure that your shop has communicated the problem clearly? Sometimes first-timers on these cars have a really hard time getting the rear springs in and out. Perhaps the shop was embarrassed to say they couldn't figure it out, so they blamed the parts?

The trick they need to know is dropping the rear subframe- you can do this one side at a time, with the bolts completely out, as long as the unbolted side is supported somehow. I imagine it is easier to jack the rear subframe back into position if you are doing this on jackstands at home as opposed to on a professional lift, high off the ground.

Re: A4 Sport Suspension Or Not...Trying to find out.

Thanks for the info guys! Over the last few weeks I've decided I'm going to save up for some C/O's, since it looks like I'm going to have to pay a few hundred for the install. I'd rather do it only once. If anyone is interested in this, I'll put it up in the FS section.

Those rear springs are the Green/Green/White markings. It's consistent with what I show in ETKA for that car.
The 2 springs in the major part of the photograph look correct for the B6/B7.
The springs way up in the top left corner of the picture don't look like B6/B7 springs. What are those?

wow what a PITA mess you got into! However if you plan on keeping your car for a while and paying for the install anyway you can't go wrong with CO's! Which ones are you looking at?

The bottom spring is the stock spring from my current suspension. The top springs are what are supposed to be the A4 OEM Sport Suspension Springs.

I'm prob going to go with STaSIS Street Sports when I have the money.

Looks like those springs that are half out of the picture are not correct.
Someone sent you the incorrect parts.

The new springs and old springs should look 99.9% identical, except for different color paint codes on them.
