    Re: replacing speaker grill

I have the same problem. The dealership told me that the speaker grill itself is only a 10 dollar part however, the labor the replace it is a bitch! The grill cover is actually molded/ melted/ formed...whatever to the interior door panel, therefore, to replace it, the entire interior door panel must come off. My dealer quoted me two hours of labor to do the job. $150 to replace a broken speaker cover... I think not. If you feel comfortable or know how to remove the door panel yourself it might be a cheap and easy fix, but if you have to pay a dealer, it's not worth the cost! Good Luck!

The door panel takes 10 minutes to remove. Not even kidding. Buy the cover and DIY.

    Re: replacing speaker grill

Coming from someone who has done this process a few times on different doors. I've used combination of drilling and melting off the "bud" with a flat tipped soldering iron. Be warned the fumes from the burning plastic will burn to the back of your brain. When you buy the replacement grille, be sure to state bose or non. Also there are metal retaining clips which you can get now so you don't have to remelt the grille. Best case scenario with everything going your way, you may be able to do it within an hour.

    Re: replacing speaker grill

Bringing this thread back from the dead.. I pulled my rear passenger side door panel off to discover the melted tabs holding the speaker cover on... damn... what a PITA... was there ever any easy way to replace this grill. I was thinking drilling out the old one and then using self taping screw to re-secure...

    Re: replacing speaker grill

i work for mercedes benz and we do the same methods, i havnt looked at the inside of an audi panel, but if you melt the bosses on the speaker panel itself should be easy if the bosses come out the door panel you gotta figure something out, but here is basically how it should work if the bosses you melt are on the speaker panel itself, simply drill the heat welds off the door panel using a drill bit the same size of the boss you need to melt on the new speaker grill you have, they will come right out very quickly trust me, then you should be able to pull the speaker grill off, then insert the new speaker grill, this is where things need to be done with extreme care, when you heat weld the new grill you need to make sure you have a very firm pressure on it so you dont have a gap and keep that factory fit and finish, use some soft clamps or something of that sort usually hand pressure isnt sufficant enough as the heat welds take a few minutes to fully dry, now what i use at work is a butane solder torce with a hot knife attachement, now what you could do as diy is use an old butter knife heat it up on the stove you want to make sure its nice and hot so the plastic dosent want to stick to the knife as you melt it, then working in a circular motion with the hot knife melt the bosses down, wait 5 min or so for a good complete drying. then reinstall your door panel like nothing ever happened :)
