Question Need to know tire pressure for 235-45-17 on Sedans

    Hello,

I'm putting on my 17" winter tires today and can't find where I wrote down the recommended tire pressure. My pillar only has values for 18's. Anyone with stock 17's on a Quattro-equipped sedan know the recommended tire pressure?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Looking to purchase a euro car that I can learn to work on, and eventually take to the track for recreation days. What is a good car to start with?

There are different recommended pressures for each car and tire combination. The pressure on the tire is just the max pressure for the tire. You must take the car's recommended pressure as well to ensure proper wear, efficiency, and safety. However, since you probably wont be racing with the car you can usually just set around the 35psi standard or whatever you had it at before. It doesn't make as big of a difference in this situation. I am sure that others will disagree, but I doubt they have my fathers 60 years of automotive experience or the 10 years of experience which I possess. But to make it clear, proper inflation is very important, but 35 is fine for most sedans and there is a much greater leeway during the winter due to the fact that your speed will usually be less than during the summer.

It should say in your manual or on your tire what the recommendations are. If you can't figure it out, a mid 30psi is always alright. I run about 32-33psi in the winter and damn near max (about 40psi) in the summer.

I have dedicated tires for both seasons btw.

I would say that those pressures above are both too low and too high. I have an 05.5 3.2 that came with the 235/45-17s. Recommended pressure is 35 psi. I normally run 36 front and 35 rear because of the added weight on the front axle. Note that it changes based on the passenger load.
