Doesn't the thermostat bypass the radiator until up to temp?

Even so, It should still warm up quicker without all that cold air blowing in on it. And I give a thumbs up to making one out of cardboard. I think it would look better.

My problem is when moving it cools down to the point where I notice it,not cold but not steam me out hot either..I like the idea of it being to hot and then having the option to cool it down...Here in the midwest when it freezes rain and is so thick, its nice to have the extra heat...Know what I mean vern.;)

Re: Winter grille cover? Anyone make one?

I live in West Michigan and our weather is much worse than Illinois. My wife is from Chicago and couldn't believe her first winter here. The nasty weather coming off the lake is crazy. I've never had any issues with heat. My mother in law lives just over a mile away and I get some heat in the 5 minutes it takes to get there. It takes about 2 minutes for the seat heater to get nice and toasty and a couple minutes later I've got real heat. I'd say it might be the V6 but I also had an S4 that was warm within a few minutes. Good thing too since that car was a cranky bitch on a cold morning.

On long frozen freeway trips my heat is still hot. If I set it to HI and put the fan in the middle I can't hold the back of my hand to the vent for long. Same with the S4. I've always been impressed with the heaters in these cars. That is, except for the heater core that needs replacing in the A4.

pardon my ignorance, but from what i can gather you guys are talking about these:
    http://www.ultimateautoaccessories.c.../PROD/EA/26085
which blocks off our CAI, doesnt our car need some air to run? i realize the engine isnt totally sealed, but it does need some fresh air, no?

Just slide a piece of cardboard between the radiator and AC condenser. Not covering the whole radiator though. Works great and you'll never see it.

The car will pull air from around the bottom of the car and through cracks and crevis, that this time of the car will run just fine.

I used to drive my car in -20 degree weather... never had any issues with it warming up, I was more worried about when the inside of the windoes would freeze up as well as the outside because of the condensation inside the car, lol.
